Sechſte Sitzung.
Sonnabend⸗Vormittag, den 7. Oktober.

V. Koren. H. G. Stub.
T. A. Torgerſen. J. A. Thorſen.

Sixth Session.
Saturday morning, October 7.

The Norwegian delegates, namely Pastors Koren, Torgersen, Thorsen and Prof. Stub, now submitted the statement announced yesterday, which, because of the adjournment, they had unfortunately not been able to submit at yesterday's afternoon session. It reads as follows:

Since it has been proved that Prof. Schmidt has not only publicly branded before all the world, as men who practise "a cowardly crypto-Calvinistic fox theology," representatives of synods that stand with us in brotherly connection in the *Synodalkonferenz* [Synodical Conference], but has also, against God's Word, intruded into the congregations of these synods and lent his hand to their division; since Prof. Schmidt has thereby shown himself not a brother in the Synodical Conference but an enemy; since he furthermore was unwilling to bring forward any counter-proof or explanation concerning the facts complained of, and has thus rejected the conditions laid before him; and since he finally was unwilling to answer the question whether he had appeared as a brother in the Synodical Conference:

therefore we, as members of the Synodical Conference, are obliged to acknowledge the Synodical Conference's right to refuse him the right to take part in its deliberations as a brother.

Since, however, no opportunity has offered itself to lay these matters before the Norwegian Synod for treatment, and since Prof. Schmidt has not acted in the Norwegian Synod, or against it, in the manner in which he has acted against the other synods belonging to the Synodical Conference: we do not wish this our assent to this decision to be understood as though we had dissolved our church connection with Prof. Schmidt, since we have not given up the hope of achieving, by continued negotiation and with God's help, both church unity and, on Prof. Schmidt's part, an acknowledgment of the wrong that he has done to the other synods in the Synodical Conference.

V. Koren. H. G. Stub.
T. A. Torgersen. J. A. Thorsen.

Thereupon it was further resolved, with regard to the rejection of Professor Schmidt, that a committee consisting of Professors Pieper and Ernst should draw up a letter addressed to the President of the Honorable Norwegian Synod and submit it to the Conference, in which the synod concerned would be officially notified that we in conscience
