der Ev.⸗Luth. Synodalkonferenz von Nordamerika. 1916. 107

Aug. Hertwig, Sekretär.
Aug. Rehwaldt, Kaſſierer.

New Ulm, Minn., 8.

1. übernahme der Miſſion;
Synodalkonferenz;
Schritte hierzu tun;

of the Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference of North America. 1916. 107

through the five flourishing schools great things have already been achieved in this short time. We have never lacked means for carrying on this mission. We have never had want. In the so-called building fund there is even a quite considerable sum. The great obstacle with which we have had to struggle so far is the lack of workers. It is very hard to win workers for this mission. True, the Distribution Committee in St. Louis kindly assigned us two candidates last year, but only one of them accepted the call, namely Missionary E. Riedel, who is diligently at work learning the language. And this year too the Distribution Committee has again left us two candidates, but unfortunately neither has been willing to follow the call. We are convinced that this would be different if one or another of the synods belonging to the Synodical Conference — or, better still — the whole Synodical Conference (*Synodalkonferenz*) were to take over this work. The necessary people for this mission would be easier to obtain. And that is now our request which we address to the brethren, that they take over this very promising China Mission and make it their own. We firmly believe that in this way this mission would soon develop into one of the most glorious of the missions carried on in our circles. To the Savior himself be this his cause commended. May he, a light to lighten the Gentiles, let more and more heathen walk in his light and find the way to heaven!

The China Mission Commission:

C. J. Albrecht, Chairman.
Aug. Hertwig, Secretary.
Aug. Rehwaldt, Treasurer.

New Ulm, Minn., August 8, 1916.

This petition was referred to a committee for a report. The following is the report of this committee:
Your committee recommends:
1. Taking over the mission;
2. Continuation by the officers of the society until the next Synodical Conference;
3. That the officers of the Synodical Conference take the necessary legal steps for this;
4. Opening the columns of the *Missionstaube* ["Mission Dove"] and of the *Pioneer* for receipts, reports, etc. of the officers.
