der Ev.⸗Luth. Synodalkonferenz von Nordamerika. 1916. 63

Dezember 1915 richtete
Herr D. Stub
antwortete am 20. April und ſchlug den 30. Mai als Zeit und The
First Ev. Luth. Church, Fullerton and Ballou Sts., Chicago, als Ort
für die Zuſammenkunft vor. Ihr Komitee nahm in ſeiner Antwort vom

of the Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference of North America. 1916. 63

and moreover was so busy with the preparations for the convention of his synod at Sioux Falls in October that only after the synod at Sioux Falls could he think of arranging a meeting of the committee appointed by the Church Council of his synod with the representatives of the Honorable Synodical Conference. Since by June 1915 no further word had come from President Dr. Stub, a member of your committee made the attempt to call on Dr. Stub in person at St. Paul, but found him away at a convention of his synod in San Francisco. To a letter of June 24, 1915, Dr. Stub replied that he had been taken up by many journeys in the interest of his synod, that another member also of the committee appointed by the Norwegian Church Council, President Vangsness, had to be almost constantly on the road, so that a meeting with the representatives of the Honorable Synodical Conference could not be thought of. "But," President Stub said in this letter, "we must of course come together." Until the end of the year 1915, however, no further word came to your committee from Dr. Stub. On December 30, 1915, your committee therefore wrote to Dr. Stub again, in which, with a reference to the Synodical Conference [*Synodalkonferenz*] soon to meet, the urgent request was expressed that the meeting of the representatives of the Norwegian Synod with those of the Honorable Synodical Conference might soon come about. To this Dr. Stub replied on January 5, 1916, and expressed the opinion: "Since the session of the Synodical Conference takes place only in August, the most suitable time for our meeting will be after our synodical session on the 18th of May. The beginning of June would perhaps not be bad, and Chicago would perhaps be a suitable place." Your committee replied to this on January 12 that the end of May or the beginning of June as the time and Chicago as the place for the meeting was agreeable to it, and asked for the exact fixing of the date of the meeting. Dr. Stub replied on April 20 and proposed May 30 as the time and The First Ev. Luth. Church, Fullerton and Ballou Sts., Chicago, as the place for the meeting. Your committee in its answer of April 25 accepted the place of meeting but could not accept the time of meeting, since on May 30 the Distribution Committee of the Missouri Synod was to meet, and two members of your committee had to take part in the sessions of that body. Moreover it seemed desirable to your committee that the meeting with the representatives of the Norwegian Synod take place before the convention of the last-named synod at Minneapolis in May. It suggested to Dr. Stub whether it was not also in the interest of his synod that the meeting take place before the session of his synod at Minneapolis, and offered, in case the Norwegian representatives should accept this proposal, itself to come to St. Paul or Minneapolis
