Das be⸗
An Eigentum beſitzt unſere Negermiſſion 27 Kapellen, 14

92 Proceedings of the twenty-sixth convention
fall off for our Negro chapel fund, so that we may erect churches and schools in which we can impart to the poor children of Ham the benefits of the Reformation which we and our children have in such rich measure and enjoy through God's undeserved grace? And that the Lord of lords looked down upon our land with mercy and has kept the dreadful World War away from us, that surely ought also to be worth an extra gift!
8. Our Mission Treasury.
The printed report of our treasurer shows that in this biennium the receipts amounted to $104,321, the expenditures to $96,633. This means, compared with the preceding biennium, an increase in receipts of $30,024 and an increase in expenditures of $20,561. The expenditures will probably become larger in the next two years. God grant that the receipts may now also increase correspondingly!
The monthly receipts of our treasurer in the *Missionstaube* ["Mission Dove"] show that the number of givers who send their gifts directly to him has increased considerably. That naturally increases his work too; but he does this work gladly. The gifts come from almost all the states of the Union as well as from Canada, South America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and India; they come from young and old, from men and women, rich and poor, healthy and sick, seeing and blind. It fills one with joyful thanks to God to see how our dear Christians joyfully lay their gifts on the altar of the mission, so that the pure Gospel of our highly praised Savior may be proclaimed also to the poor blacks for their salvation. We pray with David: "O Lord God of our fathers, keep this forever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee!" [1 Chron. 29:18]
Among the larger gifts the following may be especially mentioned here: from Mr. Unknown [*Herr Unbekannt*] $2010 (since 1896 altogether $12,760), from N. N. $2000, from the estate of the late Luise Weber in Baltimore $2000 (minus $100 inheritance taxes), from the estate of the late Pastor Karl Schrader $500. By the death of the late Papa Waltke in St. Louis our mission has lost a friend and patron who gave $200 to $300 every few months. The bequests of the late Ellen Bransford and Leaborn Jones are still in the hands of the executors.
In property our Negro Mission owns 27 chapels, 14 schools (at four places chapel and school are under one roof), 5 parsonages, 2 colleges, 2 professors' residences with the grounds belonging to them. The total property has an approximate value of $125,000.
