time for adjournment had come, and the president announced the
appointment of Rev. N. P. Xavier as chaplain for the meeting.

“Saturday morning. Before beginning the discussion of the union
question, a resolution was passed to vote on the union question at
3.30 Saturday afternoon.

“The debate was opened by Rev. Paul Koren, speaking for the
minority, followed by Rev. Findahl (partly for the minority), Rev.
Chr. Anderson, R. M. Nelson, Revs. J. A. Thorsen, G. A. Gullixon,
and M. K. Bleken, defending the minority side, but alternating with
these the following spoke for the adoption of the Grindeland motion:
Judge Grindeland, Hon. L. O. Thorpe, Rev. G. T. Lee, Rev. B. E.
Bergesen, and representative L. V. Johnson. When these had spoken,
the time for voting set by the meeting was at hand. It was decided
to vote by roll-call. A motion to call the roll of the delegates first
was defeated. Revs. O. L. Grefthen and J. J. Strand and representa-
tives T. C. Thorsen and A. H. Dahl were appointed tellers.

“The total vote cast was 724. The motion prevailed by 522 votes
as against 202 in the negative. 172 ministers and 350 delegates voted
for and 103 ministers and 99 delegates voted against the motion.

“The other two motions pertaining to the union were read by
President Stub, but the time for adjournment was at hand, and no
vote was taken.

“Rev. S. J. N. Ylvisaker moved the order of the day. The two
remaining motions pertaining to the union question were read, and
Rev. B. E. Bergesen moved that motion No. 2 be adopted. A reso-
lution was passed that the vote on both motions be taken before 11.30.

“The motions read were the following: —

“No. 2. — Whereas the Conditions of Union and Articles of Union
between the Synod of the Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church of
America, the United Norwegian Lutheran Church of America, and
the Hauge Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Synod of America for
the consolidation of the three into one church-body, and also a con-
stitution for the proposed consolidated body have been adopted at this
meeting;

“Whereas these Conditions of Union and Articles of Union have
in view a consolidation of all three church-bodies, and contain various
conditions in reference to the participation and contributions of the
Hauge Synod to the proposed consolidated church-body;

“Whereas the Hauge Synod as yet has not accepted aforesaid
Conditions of Union and Articles of Union and Constitution, and
since it is uncertain whether the Hauge Synod will enter into the new
church-body;

“Whereas the Norwegian Synod, although it desires and hopes
