Veränderung zweier Liederſtrophen in unſerm Geſangbuche.

anſtößig erſcheinenden Strophen, nämlich in Nr. 363, 4: „Denn JEſus iſt mein

The Committee on Printed Matter is to be reminded that no profit at all
is to be made especially from the sale of the synodical reports, so that
they can be sold as cheaply as possible. Pastors Brunn, Harms, and
Ruhland, and the Mission Institute in Leipzig, are to receive the reports
free through the agent.

Counter-declaration against the papal declaration of infallibility.

A motion had come in from a member of the Northern District, calling for
the publication of a solemn counter-declaration against the antichristian
declaration of infallibility. The committee charged with assessing this
motion submitted its report, which was adopted by the Synod and ordered
printed: "The committee ventures to express its opinion as follows: that,
since our Synod confesses with heart and mouth, according to Scripture
and the [Lutheran] Symbols, that the Pope is the true Antichrist, and
since with this confession it has already in advance protested against
all blasphemies which the devil has brought forth and may yet bring forth
through this his tool, it seems neither necessary nor fitting to issue a
special declaration against this latest papal abomination."

Appendix to our hymnal.

A motion had come from the Eastern District to incorporate into our
hymnal, as an appendix, some of the most common church hymns found in
almost all [other] hymnals but so far missing from our own. The
preparatory committee reported on this and the Synod adopted the report:

"Regarding a petition from the Eastern District as to whether it would
not be fitting to make an appendix to our hymnal, this committee — with
one member dissenting — believes the Synod would scarcely find it
advisable: 1) because it is not a common but only a special need of a few
congregations; 2) because if a few congregations were indulged in this,
offense would be given to other congregations with similar needs; 3)
because the number of hymns contained in our hymnal for the present
appears sufficient; it is not so much too few hymns that is complained
of, but rather that other hymns are wished for, whereas our own, too, are
all solid, substantial hymns [Kernlieder]."

Change of two hymn stanzas in our hymnal.

Already at the last General Synod, a change to two stanzas that appeared
objectionable — namely, No. 363, verse 4: "For Jesus is my treasure and
crown, who gives me heaven as my reward," and No. 391, verse 4: "If
through righteousness I find my blessedness" — had been requested by an
unnamed synodical member. The Synod at that time found no time to...
