Was die Zu⸗

...offices shall be honorary offices, and shall also determine the
agent's salary.
Regarding the report of the New York Emigrant Commission, it was resolved
to print it in the "Lutheraner."
Of the motions made, the following were adopted:
a) What was said in the report about hiring an assistant, where it was
explained that this did not mean a theologian, but a laborer, who
nevertheless often has difficult cases to handle and therefore must have
the necessary skill in this line of work.
b) It had been proposed to establish a regular emigrant worship service.
Since the annual rent for a suitable venue would come rather high, but
the Synod feared other things would suffer if the synodical treasury were
drawn on heavily for this, it was resolved that we shall take up this
matter again "at the next opportunity." The matter of a venue is
otherwise left to the commission in New York.
c) To the passage dealing with the means of raising funds, the following
is to be added: "a member" (Pastor Gottlieb or his successor) "of the
Emigrant Commission shall make mission trips among the congregations, be
present at the Synodical Conference, and preach on the emigrant mission,
so as to awaken interest in this most important and useful cause."
The congregations should fairly support the emigrant mission with a
helping hand. The missionary's annual salary was, by resolution of the
Synod, increased by $200.
What is said in the report about "additional income" is to be struck,
since none is coming in.
Everything else in the report was adopted.
Distribution of the synodical reports.
The Eastern District had moved that the various synodical reports be sent
to pastors and schoolteachers without prior order being placed. Adopted.
—
On this occasion the following resolutions were also passed: The
synodical presidents and secretaries, and the presidents of the synods we
recognize, shall receive the synodical reports free of charge. As for
sending the reports to the congregations, the old practice shall
continue, i.e., the desired number shall be supplied upon order. The
general agent is to be instructed to send two copies of the various
synodical reports to each district secretary for deposit in the district
archives; all of the Synod's educational institutions shall receive two
reports for their libraries. All students currently enrolled this past
year at St. Louis and Addison shall be given the reports free of charge.
