Synode von Ohio u. a.

Was unſer Verhältniß zur Ehrw.

...it was pointed out that it had always been our settled practice, in such
a case as the present one, to hold a colloquy through persons specially
appointed by the Synod, together with representatives of the other synod.
However highly we regarded the testimony given by the President of the
Wisconsin Synod concerning the confessional standing of the Minnesota
Synod, as well as the favorable testimony given by our own brethren living
in Minnesota, we should nevertheless not depart from our long-standing
practice. The Reverend Minnesota Synod met this proposal for an official
colloquy to be held by inviting the colloquy-participants appointed by our
Synod to take part in its own synodical assembly, to be held in June. Two
colloquy-participants were named from the teaching estate [clergy] and two
from the *Hörerschaft* [the non-voting auditors] to hold the colloquy with
the named synod; should it turn out favorably, our delegates to the
*Synodalconferenz* [Synodical Conference] are instructed to vote for the
admission of the Reverend Minnesota Synod into the union of the Synodical
Conference.

Named as colloquy-participants were: Pastor Fick and Professor Brauer, as
well as Messrs. Brandhorst Jr. and Helmke, both of Minnesota.

Concerning the Ohio Synod.

The portion of the president's report that spoke of our relationship to
the Reverend Ohio Synod was communicated once more. Since the Synod
recognized, both from this report and from oral communications, that
everything had been done by the Reverend Synod of Ohio and other states
that our Synod had required as necessary before finalizing the agreement,
the written agreement was by unanimous resolution acknowledged as valid.

Concerning the Illinois Synod.

As for our relationship to the Reverend Illinois Synod, the relevant
matter was communicated from the president's report; a synodical member
then stated that since the General Synod of 1869 our relations with the
Reverend Illinois Synod had only grown closer through jointly held
conferences and through the mutual sending of delegates between the
synods. As a sign of how seriously the Illinois Synod means this union
with us, it may be noted that it has its students trained at our
institutions. The Illinois Synod thus wills unmistakably that our
doctrine and practice should come into its congregations. Another
synodical member remarked that, while he did not wish to stand in the way
of the union, he had to state that he himself had not yet been able to
observe anything of the removal of those defects criticized back in 1869.
He wished to ask whether others had had a different experience...
