der ev.⸗luth. Synodal⸗Conferenz von Nord⸗Amerika. 1886. 83

IV. Eine Klageſchrift eines Herrn G. Ch. Schulz
in Brooklyn.

Synode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. ihm widerfahrene Behandlung und
einige darauf bezügliche Fragen. Die betreffende Sache hat dem genannten
Diſtrict bei ſeiner letzten Sitzung vom 21.—27. Juli dieſes Jahres zur Ver⸗
handlung vorgelegen. Der Beſchwerdeführer erklärt, das Reſultat ſei ihm
unbekannt. Auf die Frage desſelben: ‚Iſt die Diſtricts⸗Synode (der)

gezogen werden?‘ antworten wir: Nein. Siehe Conſtitution der Ev.⸗luth.
Synodalconferenz von Nord⸗Amerika, § V.

„Einer Ehrw. Synodalconferenz ergebene Committee:

C. J. Albrecht.
Joſ. Schmidt.
P. Prager.“

Dieſer Bericht wurde einſtimmig angenommen.

V. Das Pilgerhaus in New York.

of the Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference of North America. 1886. 83

IV. A Written Complaint of a Mr. G. Ch. Schulz
in Brooklyn.

The same was likewise given to a committee, which reported the follow-
ing: "The document handed to us contains a complaint
of a Mr. G. Ch. Schulz concerning treatment which he experienced in the Eastern District of the Reverend
Synod of Missouri, Ohio and other States, and
some questions relating to it. The matter in question was before the named
District for deliberation at its last session of 21-27 July of this year.
The complainant declares that the result is unknown to him.
To his question: 'Is the District Synod answerable to the Honorable Synodical Conference [Synodalconferenz] and can it be called to account?'
we answer: No. See the Constitution of the Ev. Luth.
Synodical Conference of North America, § V.

"Respectfully submitted to the Reverend Synodical Conference, your Committee:

C. J. Albrecht.
Jos. Schmidt.
P. Prager."

This report was unanimously adopted.

V. The Pilgrims' House in New York.

The following was communicated to the Synodical Conference about it:

For a long time it has been painfully felt that the emigrant mission
has no place of its own. The missionary is compelled to lead the
immigrants into German inns, and then has no control
over them any more. With his "office" he had often to change, because one
could not tolerate the ship smell from the immigrants' clothes in such houses.
And in order merely to get an office he had to pay
heavy rent. So he also never got to see many immigrants addressed to him.
That was a fatal thing. Then it turned out
that a building on which our Commission had had an eye for
several years was suddenly offered to us for sale; but the Emigrant Commission was given only
one hour's time to consider, because the Catholics were also after it
and had offered considerably more. The Commission ventured the
purchase on its own responsibility. It acquired a large, handsome, durable
building for 45,000 dollars. It is, in the judgment of all experts,
