Verhandlungen nichts gefunden, was der heilſamen Lehre zuwider iſt, müſſen
ausgeſprochene Schriftlehren ſind und darum beide geglaubt werden müſſen;
Lehre von der Wahl die in der Rechtfertigung liegenden Lehrſtücke beſtätigt;
Hochachtungsvoll zeichnen
F. König, sen.
J. P. Beyer.
Dankvotum.
Beſchloſſen, daß der Trinitatis⸗Gemeinde des Hrn. P. J. A. Hügli
werde.

90 Proceedings of the eleventh convention
The undersigned, having read through together the proceedings conducted,
found nothing that is contrary to the wholesome doctrine, and must rather
declare that these discussions are well grounded in Scripture and in accord with the Confessions of our Church.
Obediently submitted to the Reverend Synodical Conference [Synodalconferenz]:
G. Küchle.
H. F. Sprengeler.
14. Report on the synodical reports of the Reverend Concordia Synod
of the years 1884 and 1885.
To its committee were handed over for examination and review the
synodical reports of the Reverend Concordia Synod of the years 1884 and 1885.
The main subject of the doctrinal proceedings in both years was the theses presented by
Mr. P. R. Herbst on the relation of the doctrine of
election [Wahl] to the doctrine of justification.
The short, concise series of theses proves: 1. that both doctrines, both
the doctrine of justification and that of eternal election [Erwählung], are clearly
expressed Scripture doctrines and therefore both must be believed;
2. that both doctrines by no means contradict each other, but that rather the
doctrine of election confirms the doctrinal points lying in justification;
3. that the purpose and effect of both doctrines are: a) to fill the heart with comfort and
peace, b) to kindle zeal in sanctification.
The committee can report to a Reverend Synodical Conference that the
doctrinal proceedings were conducted purely and cleanly, thoroughly, edifyingly on the basis of the
divine Word and of our "Concordia" [Book of Concord], with citation of rich
quotations, especially from Luther's writings.
Also the resolutions of the synod concerning the recommendations of the
various committees are in accord with the Word of God and sound churchly
practice.
Respectfully signed
F. König, Sr.
J. P. Beyer.
Vote of Thanks.
Resolved, that to the Trinity congregation of Mr. P. J. A. Hügli
in the closing service the hearty thanks of the Synodical Conference be expressed for the
friendly and loving hospitality
shown.
