...and conduct, ever more deeply grounded and further advanced, although
despite this same zeal the results are not the same in every
congregation, and in Christian earnestness for the nurture and the
various expressions of congregational life some congregations outpace
others.
Changes in Office.
1. Pastor E. A. Schürmann, formerly pastor of St. John's congregation
in Warren Township, Marion County, Ind., called by the Evangelical
Lutheran St. Paul's congregation in Jackson County, Ind., was installed
there by order of the Präsidium [presidency] on the third Sunday after
Easter 1857 by Pastor Sauer at his new congregation.
2. Pastor G. Schäfer, until now assistant pastor to Pastor Seidel,
called by St. John's congregation in Marion County, Ind., was installed
in his congregation on the 6th Sunday after Trinity by order of the
district Präses [president] by Pastor Fricke, assisted by Pastor J. G.
Kunz.
3. Pastor Fr. Nützel, until now pastor of St. James's congregation at
Wittenberg, Franklin Co., O., called by St. John's congregation near
Marysville, Union County, O., and installed on the 11th Sunday after
Trinity by the congregation's previous pastor, J. Seidel — who had been
compelled to lay down his office because of a chronic ailment of the
throat and head — assisted by Pastor H. Bauer.
4. Pastor H. Bauer, formerly pastor at the congregation in Dutchmans
Point, Cook Co., Ill., called by St. James's congregation in Wittenberg,
Franklin Co., O., was installed there by order of the Präsidium on the
10th Sunday after Trinity by Pastor Fr. Nützel.
5. Pastor W. Engelbert, in Holmes County, O., expanded his ministerial
district by accepting a regular call from a neighboring congregation,
where he was installed by the Vice-Präses, Pastor Schwan.
6. Likewise Pastor A. W. Bergt, at his congregation in Williams County,
O., took on the congregation in Fulton County as well after a regular
call, and was installed there by order of the district Präses by Pastor
Detzer.
Ordinations.
Reinhold Tramm, until now a student at the seminary in Fort Wayne,
called as pastor of a newly forming Lutheran congregation at La Porte,
Ind., was, after passing the prescribed examination, ordained and
installed in his office on the 13th Sunday after Trinity by the
district Präses in the midst of his congregation.
Other Changes.
Owing to a persistent throat ailment, Pastor J. P. Kolb of Lancaster,
O., was compelled to lay down his office. The congregation called the
assistant pastor who had been serving at the congregation in Fort
Wayne, Pastor Fr. Föhlinger, to be its minister and pastor, a call he
accepted with the consent of the Fort Wayne congregation, and he is to
be installed there after the close of the synodical convention.
