7. as Committee on Printed Matter: Messrs. E. W. Leonhard,
C. Römer, and T. Schuricht.
The building committee was abolished entirely; an academy committee
is no longer needed, since the academy has ceased operation.
The teachers chosen provisionally by the electoral college for
Concordia College — namely Director Saxer, Professor Lange, and
Collaborator Kleppisch — were confirmed by the synod.
For our next general synod assembly the synod fixed Fort Wayne, Ind.
as the place, and the second Wednesday of October, A.D. 1863, as the
time.
Public Worship Services During the Synod
Besides on the two Sundays, public worship services were also held on
various weekday evenings in the three churches of the St. Louis
congregation — two of them in the English language — and in these
nineteen different pastors preached, some on the appointed church
pericopes, some on free texts. Professor Walther delivered the
pastoral sermon, which, at the synod's wish and by its resolution,
has already been made public through the "Lutheraner."
Vote of Thanks to the Congregation in St. Louis
The congregation at St. Louis was unanimously voted the heartiest
thanks for the excellent hospitality shown to the synod, and
instructions were given that this thanks be publicly expressed from
the pulpit on the Sunday after the close of the sessions.
