meindeglieder vorgebracht.
in Kenntniß geſetzt.
Amen.

was brought there by a portion of the congregation's members. After I
had thoroughly dealt with these in two congregational meetings, and
the accusers, the accused, and the witnesses had been duly examined,
the final outcome was that the complainants were wholly unable to
bring any substantive wrongdoing against the accused. Wherever he had,
in the course of discussing these points in the congregational
meetings already held, made a misstep in some individual expression,
he had immediately withdrawn it, as even his adversaries could not
deny. Their complaint was accordingly dismissed by me, and they were
rebuked according to and with God's Word and admonished to repent.
Unfortunately this repentance did not follow; for since I naturally
could not agree to their proposed remedy of recommending Pastor Heid
for a call elsewhere, they revealed themselves, soon after my
departure, as enemies of the chastening Word of God and unjust,
spiteful persecutors of its preacher. For since they numbered somewhat
more than half, they seized the church for themselves, later drove the
pastor with his wife and children out of the parsonage, and renounced
the Synod. Twenty-five members, however, remained firm and faithful,
and grew in true Christianity through this sifting by God. Since I
learned, moreover, that the defectors wished to turn to the Ohio
Synod for pastoral supply, I have given Professor Lehmann and Pastor
Schulze, the president of the Western District, a summary account of
the state of affairs. May God grant these poor, wretched people grace
unto repentance. Amen.
