Verſicherung, Kirchendiener, Delegaten zur ‚Immanuel⸗Conferenz‘ be⸗
den aus Dank für die in Chriſto erwieſene Barmherzigkeit Gottes geopfert;
In
Mount Pleaſant, N. C., iſt am Sonntag, den 13. Juli 1902, eine Ge⸗
meinde organiſirt worden mit 38 Seelen, darunter 12 Communicirenden
und 6 ſtimmberechtigten Gliedern. Dieſe Gemeinde hat auch bereits ein
eigenes Gotteshäuschen. Negercandidat St. Doswell vom Seminar in
Schmidt ge⸗
gründet und organiſirt worden. Dieſe neue Gemeinde heißt: “Mount
Calvary Ev. Luth. Church.” An dem Sonntag, an welchem die Orga⸗

right way. Also in the congregational meetings, which take place here regularly every month, the Word of truth is the sole rule and standard of the proceedings conducted there, as a glance into the minute book at once shows. We have here at present 57 souls and 22 communicants, of whom 5 are voting members.
"Teacher Buntrock, who has with great steadfastness directed the day school for nearly four years, has 75 pupils. In the Sunday school there are 60 pupils. In the last two years 11 children were baptized here, 6 adults and one child confirmed, 137 communed, 4 were buried in Christian manner and 2 couples married. That no child of Lutheran parents here attends the public school is certainly also a reason for joy. A number of our young men are studying at present in Springfield, and we cherish the hope that they too will one day bring joy and honor to their mother congregation and above all to their Lord and Savior! Only one more point shall be mentioned here. In spite of the well-known poverty of the Negroes here also, our congregation, numbering only 22 communicants, has collected the following sums in the last two years: in voluntary contributions $252.10, in Sunday collections $61.40, in the Sunday school $52.39, for the poor fund $20.96, tuition $32.69; together $419.54. Of this, $12.00 each month was regularly sent to the mission treasurer in St. Louis; the by no means small expenses for light, heating, insurance, church janitor and delegates to the 'Immanuel Conference' were met; $7.00 was sent to the poor in India and $5.00 to the deaf-mutes in Milwaukee; our own poor, as well as Negro students in Springfield and New Ulm, were also supported. And these moneys were offered out of thanks for the mercy of God shown in Christ; for where we could not raise moneys without bringing the devil along into the church, we have, as explained, not wanted to have any money."
Missionary Paul Engelbert reports on the station Reimerstown that the mission here has made no progress in the last two years, and not much hope can be given at present with regard to growth. On the other hand, at the stations Rockwell, Gold Hill and Mount Pleasant things are going forward gratifyingly. In Mount Pleasant, N. C., a congregation was organized on Sunday, 13 July 1902, with 38 souls, among them 12 communicants and 6 voting members. This congregation also already has a little church building of its own. Negro candidate St. Doswell of the seminary in Springfield has been called to Mount Pleasant and will serve from there the stations Reimerstown and Dry's Schoolhouse as well.
Another new congregation has been founded and organized in Sandy Ridge, Cabarrus Co., N. C., on 6 July of this year by our missionary Ph. Schmidt. This new congregation is called "Mount Calvary Ev. Luth. Church." On the Sunday on which the organization
