der ev.⸗luth. Synodalconferenz von Nord⸗America. 1902. 69

in Prince Edward County. Die Seelenzahl beträgt 167, die Zahl der Com⸗
municirenden 75, der Stimmberechtigten 17. Confirmirt wurden 4 Kinder
und 14 Erwachſene. An Beiträgen und Collecten ſind etwa $230.00 ein⸗
gegangen.

thum ſehr an Werth geſtiegen.

In New Orleans arbeiten gegenwärtig die Paſtoren Lankenau,
Koßmann und Kretzſchmar und die Lehrer Vix, Riſchow, Meibohm und
Heintzen.

of the Evangelical Lutheran Synodical Conference of North America. 1902. 69

growth are not great. It is simply seedtime; the harvest comes later. I am firmly convinced that if we work on here for a few years quietly but earnestly and resolutely, the blessing will not fail to appear, but a faithful little flock will be gathered together to the praise and glory of God."

Pastor Schooff has been working for twelve years in Meherrin, Va., and indeed with great faithfulness and great patience. About six months ago he was at death's door, but with God's help he has recovered and can take up his work again. He serves four places, namely Meherrin and Pleasant Grove in Lunenburg County, Bruceville and Waldo in Prince Edward County. The number of souls is 167, the number of communicants 75, of voting members 17. 4 children and 14 adults were confirmed. In contributions and collections about $230.00 came in. Pastor Schooff complains greatly of the work, which cannot be mastered, and asks urgently for an assistant. He writes: "Although the loving God out of grace has heard the many prayers of our dear friends of the mission and has rescued me from a deadly illness, it will nevertheless take some time until I am again fully in strength. My physicians still order rest."

The station Springfield, Ill., has also in the last two years again been supervised and directed by Professor Herzer. Professors and students from the seminary stood by him in the preaching. The mission has made good progress. The parsonage is paid off, and the corner lot ("Ecklot") will also be paid off shortly. The Honorable Synodical Conference [*Synodalconferenz*] is under great obligation of thanks to Professor Herzer: for eight years he has served the mission tirelessly and without pay, and under his wise supervision the mission has been strengthened and the mission property has risen greatly in value. In the school our colored teacher McDavitt is still working with good success. The Negro candidate L. Thalley has accepted the call to the Negro congregation in Springfield and will now shortly enter upon his office.

In New Orleans there are at present working the pastors Lankenau, Koßmann and Kretzschmar and the teachers Vix, Rischow, Meibohm and Heintzen. In a few weeks the two newly called teachers Wilde and Wolf will also enter the New Orleans mission. The station Mount Zion, served since September 1900 by Pastor Karl Kretzschmar, has again increased somewhat in the last two years. This station had suffered many disturbances in the last years, through change of preachers, etc. The number of souls is at present 173; among them are 88 communicants and 17 voting members. In the day school there are 130 children and in the Sunday school the same number. Church attendance on Sunday morning averages 72, Sunday evening 51 and during the week 25 hearers. The teachers Vix and Meibohm are at the school. This station was founded in 1878, 24 years ago.
