der ev.⸗luth. Synodalconferenz von Nord⸗America. 1902. 87

of the Evangelical Lutheran Synodical Conference of North America. 1902. 87
establishment of such an institution is a pressing need and also belongs to the work of love and mission commanded us by God, was generally recognized; but on the question whether it is wise and practical for the local Children's Friend Society as such to take this work in hand, no unanimous decision could be reached. Therefore the board of directors of the Children's Friend Society herewith turns to the Honorable Synodical Conference [*Synodalconferenz*] with the request to subject this matter to thorough deliberation and to express its judgment and opinion on it, at what place and in what manner this work of love, so necessary also, should be undertaken so that it may be carried out in the best and most blessed way. The board of directors of the Children's Friend Society is of the conviction that, although the Honorable Synodical Conference as such will not take up this matter, it is nevertheless the body whose judgment in this affair ought to be decisive, since a Lutheran institution for the feeble-minded would certainly be used and also supported by the whole Synodical Conference.
In the name and by commission of the board of directors of the Ev. Luth. Children's Friend Society of Wisconsin, signed in all respect
W. H. Gräbner, President.
F. H. Höck, Secretary.
After a short debate on the matter raised in the submission it was resolved that the Synodical Conference, for lack of time, cannot enter upon a longer deliberation on it.
2. A committee appointed to examine the matter reported as follows on a long submission of Pastor Gößwein:
The Committee which was commissioned to report on the submission of Pastor Gößwein has looked through the documents at hand and takes the liberty of recommending the following:
Since Pastor Gößwein has not yet received the decision of the general body [*Allgemeine Synode*; the Synod of Missouri, Ohio and Other States as a whole] of Missouri in his case, but this will in any event be received in the near future, it is advisable that the Honorable Synodical Conference not intervene in this matter.

This committee report was adopted.
3. Concerning a letter from the German Lutheran congregation at Cincinnati, Ohio, presented by the chairman, a committee appointed to examine it submitted the following report:
