II.

II. Negro Mission.
The report of the Commission for the Negro Mission [Negermission, the period's term] was read. It reads as follows:
Report of the Commission for the Negro Mission for the period from August 1904 to August 1906.
"It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto Thy name, O Most High: to show forth Thy lovingkindness in the morning, and Thy faithfulness every night," Ps. 92:1. This favorite song, which one hears so often and in such jubilant tones from the lips of the children of God, we can confidently place also over the past two years of work of our Negro Mission. We have again to look back on a rich measure of the kindness and mercy of our faithful God.
According to the word of Jesus the Christian Church, like a city on a hill, is to shine far into the land. Christians are the salt of the earth and the light of the world and are to serve those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death as guides on the way of life. The Christian Church is the true mission institution, and the Christians in the Church are the true missionaries. Mission, however, means sending, and what is meant is the sending or carrying out of the LORD and His Gospel, whose content He Himself is, into all the world and into all the circumstances of life. As the Father sent the Son into the world, so we too are to carry the Son out, and His Gospel into all the world. For "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature!" — this is the great mission command of the LORD. And from the Feast of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit glorified Jesus in the hearts of the disciples and loosed their tongues, so that they as
