42 Proceedings of the twenty-first convention

"The synod now consists of 14 pastors and about 18 congregations.

"The officers of the synod are: President [Präses]: Johann Pelikan, pastor in Chicago, Ill.; Vice-President: Karl Hauser, pastor in Wilkes Barre, Pa.; Secretary: Th. Balent, pastor in Allegheny, Pa.; Treasurer: Martin Tomaska, pastor in Connellsville, Pa.

"Further information will gladly be given by the undersigned.

"May the Lord richly bless the labors of the Synodical Conference!

"With hearty greeting
"Of the Honorable Fathers and Gentlemen, your brother in the Lord,
"Johann Pelikan,
"Slovak Lutheran pastor and President of the Slovak-Evangelical A. C. Synod of Pennsylvania.
"Chicago, Ill., 1 August 1906."

The committee which had to evaluate this application presented the following report:

"Chicago, Ill., 16 August 1906.

"'3. It accepts these symbolical books as the pure, unadulterated presentation and explanation of the divine Word, unconditionally and without reservation, in rebus et phrasibus, as regards content and expression.

"'4. It wants to be guided especially by the words of Holy Scripture: "Be diligent to keep the unity in the Spirit through the bond of peace," Eph. 4:3–6, and will take pains to be at one also in life with the confessional writings.'

"On the basis of this clear confession the committee recommends 2., to receive the Slovak-Evangelical A. C. Synod of Pennsylvania into the union of the Synodical Conference and to instruct the secretary to
