70 Proceedings of the twentieth convention

This petition was referred to the members of the Revision Committee who were present, and they reported as follows:

To an Honorable Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference, assembled at Winona, Minn.

Your committee, to which was handed over the written request of the Ev. Luth. Pastoral Conference of New Orleans and Vicinity that an alteration of the English catechism text be refrained from, recommends to the Honorable *Synodalconferenz* [Synodical Conference] to grant this request and thereby to dismiss the Revision Committee appointed in the year 1896, but to hand over the collected documents to the archive for safekeeping. F. Kügele.
                                                    C. Gausewitz.
                                                    W. H. T. Dau.

By adopting the proposal of this committee the Synodical Conference settled for the time being the question with which it was concerned.

III. Lithuanian Mission.

The following petition was read:

To the Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference of North America, assembled in Winona, Minn., August 18, 1904.
Dear Fathers and Brethren in Christ!
The undersigned Commission takes the liberty of submitting the following to the Honorable Synodical Conference for deliberation:
Since the Joint [*Allgemeine*] Ev. Luth. Synod of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and Other States has for some time been carrying on mission among the Lithuanians here in the United States, and also supports a missionary in the person of Pastor Katurakats of Collinsville, Ill.; and since, further, it has come to our knowledge that the Eastern District of the Honorable Missouri Synod has also begun to carry on Lithuanian mission, we ask that the Honorable Synodical Conference carry on the mission among the Lithuanians as a common work. The Joint Synod of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and Other States has resolved at its last convention to ask the Honorable Synodical Conference to take up this mission work as it did the Negro Mission.
The Commission for Lithuanian Mission of the Joint Ev. Luth. Synod of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and Other States.
                                    Ph. von Rohr.
                                    Ad. Spiering.
                                    A. F. Winter.
After thorough discussion, in which it was also pointed out that the Eastern District of the Honorable Missouri Synod has likewise begun a Lithuanian mission, it was
resolved that the Synodical Conference take over the Lithuanian mission, on the condition of the consent of the Eastern District of the Missouri Synod.
At a later session a Commission was elected for this mission, whose members are listed under the report on the elections.
