Berichte. Herr Prof. Biſchoff, Redacteur des Lutheran Pioneer, welcher
gegenwärtig in Conover, N. C., wohnt, iſt leider immer noch leidend.

Vor zwei Jahren faßte die Ehrw. Synodalconferenz u. a. folgenden

mighty in the weak. Especially have I tried to paint the LORD Christ gloriously and lovingly before the pupils' eyes and to strengthen and confirm their faith in him and their love to him. For what we want and need are pious, God-fearing Negro preachers and teachers who out of love for their Savior sacrifice themselves in the service of the Gospel for their racial kinsmen. To this end may God preserve, advance and bless Immanuel College!

General Matters.

Pastor August Burgdorf has withdrawn from the Commission since his call away from Lincoln, Ill., to Chicago. In his place Pastor Buchheimer of St. Louis was unanimously elected to the Commission. However, after a short term of service he had to resign again on account of weakened health and too much congregational work.

Our friend "Unknown" (N. N.) has also in the last two years appeared repeatedly and each time handed the treasurer $500.00 as a gift for the Negro Mission.

The Commission for Negro Mission has also in the last two years held its monthly meetings regularly and in addition many extra meetings, the proceedings of which are carefully recorded.

All the mission stations have been officially visited in the course of the last two years. Visitations were held, for example, by the Pastors R. Kretzschmar and Chas. F. Obermeyer. Pastor Vangsnes of the Honorable Norwegian Synod, at the wish of some missionaries and at the request of the Commission, has traveled through the whole mission territory of the Negro Mission and visited all the stations.

The Commission still demands from the missionaries not merely general descriptive but also regular quarterly statistical reports. Professor Bischoff, editor of the *Lutheran Pioneer*, who at present lives in Conover, N. C., is unfortunately still ailing.

Two years ago the Honorable *Synodalconferenz* [Synodical Conference] adopted among other things the following resolution: "All synods and synodical members shall be made aware that it greatly harms the mission when missionaries and mission teachers are called away from their work in the Negro Mission so soon, as has happened often in recent times. This resolution is to be brought to general knowledge as a recommendation through the synodical organs." Whether this resolution has been carried out everywhere, we do not know, but we do know that of the few workers we have in the Negro Mission, in the last two years 8 pastors and 2 teachers have received calls. That is not only striking, it is and remains an evil — the mission stations must suffer from it. Thus, for example, we have seen our missionary Paul Engelbert, who worked faithfully and zealously in the Negro Mission, leave the mission very reluctantly — but we could not keep him. Mission teacher Rischow, who for many years
