86 Proceedings of the 20th General or

Resolved, that Prof. Günther arrange a separate print, in the
constitution's present wording, for all those who wish to have it
separately.

Luther Monument

The society founded four years ago in St. Louis with regard to this
monument, which has set itself the task of adorning the square in front
of Concordia Seminary in St. Louis with a statue of the Reformer Dr.
Martin Luther, asked the General Synod for support of its undertaking.

Resolved, that the General Synod must let the matter rest at this:
that the said request has been made known to the synodical delegates now
present, leaving it to each one whether and how he wishes to grant
support to that undertaking.

Synodical Land near Burlington, Iowa

This ten-acre tract of land, located 5 miles north of Burlington,
Iowa, was given to our synod on the condition that a charitable
institution be erected on this property. At the same time, however, the
synod has been given permission, until the desired institution is
built, to derive a usufruct from that property through leasing, on the
condition that the rent obtained be devoted annually to one of our
synod's orphanages. Although now, under the prevailing circumstances —
there being, for instance, none of our synodical congregations in that
place or the whole surrounding area — the fulfillment of the chiefly
intended use of the land can probably not be thought of for a long time
yet, it is nonetheless our duty to take account of the giver's further
wish and to devote the yield of the land to our orphanages. So that this
may happen, the synod, regarding this matter, adopted the following
resolutions:

1. That tract of land near Burlington, Iowa, shall be leased.

2. The leasing and collection of the rent shall be assigned to the
Iowa District of our synodical body, with the charge that the said
district apply the annual amount of the rent to the orphanages within
our synod in rotation.

3. For the purpose of being able to collect the rent as is proper,
the Iowa District shall have the property appraised as to its value from
time to time — about once every 5 years.
