Fifth Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1887. 77
Total $25688.57. Paid out to those concerned, $25688.57. Cash
advances were made: 1884, $1578.28; 1885, $1096.75; and 1886,
$633.64; total $3308.67, a good part of which is still outstanding. —
To poor immigrants there were given from the relief fund about
$77.65. For those who had to remain here, lodging was arranged. For
board and lodging there was paid: 1884, $4218.31 for 1663 souls; 1885,
$1612.52 for 534 souls; 1886, $2862.35 for 1142 souls; total $8693.18
for 3339 souls. To this must be added the expense for doctor and
medicine for those treated in the emigrant house as well as in the
hospital. I am not able to state this sum. In addition I have handed
out money to several passengers in special cases. This money came
from the revenue accruing to the state from the head tax on
emigrants, at 50 cents each, which was given into my hands by the
authorities for the purpose of assisting emigrants. How much longer,
however, I shall still receive money from this fund for the stated
purpose, I cannot say." W. Sallmann.
