Fünften Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1887. 69

„Vom 12. Juli 1883 bis 28. Februar 1887 betrugen die Einnahmen
$5391.12, die Ausgaben $5399.32; mithin betrug das Deficit am
28. Februar 1887 $8.20.

Fifth Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1887. 69

"From July 12, 1883 to February 28, 1887 the receipts amounted to
$5391.12, the expenditures to $5399.32; the deficit on February 28,
1887 thus amounted to $8.20.

"With this we believe we have reported to the Reverend Synod the
most essential facts from the Jewish mission, and since our term of
office has now expired, we place the whole matter in your hands."
(Report of the Jewish Mission Commission.)

Resolved, that, since the discouraging experiences made in the
Jewish mission can be no reason for us to withdraw our hand from
this work, the work of the Jewish mission be carried further in the
manner now begun.

English Mission.

A number of English-Lutheran congregations of this country, which
stand with us in complete unity of faith, had addressed a petition to
the Synod that it, the Synod, permit them to form a special District
of the English tongue within our Synod, to be called: English
Mission District of the Synod of Missouri, etc. — After lengthy
deliberation on this subject the Synod came to the conviction that it
could not grant the petition of those congregations. Since our Synod,
according to its constitution, is a purely German one, it could
scarcely be reconciled with that provision to set up the establishment
of an English District within it. And even if it were possible to
remove this objection, there are still other weighty reasons present
that make it seem altogether inadvisable to us to grant those
congregations their petition. Yet we are prepared to extend a hand to
those congregations and to be of service and assistance to them with
counsel and action, so far as lies in our power. Accordingly the Synod
adopted the following resolutions:

Resolved, that the petition of a number of English-Lutheran
congregations to be permitted to form a special Mission District
within our Synod (or, respectively, to be regarded as an equal
constituent part of the "Missouri Synod") be declined.

Resolved, that those English-Lutheran congregations be encouraged
by us to unite into a Lutheran synod of their own, of the English
tongue.

Resolved, that, if those English-Lutheran congregations consider
that the time to follow this advice just given by us has not yet
come, and that they for the present would rather still lean upon us
