4 Verhandlungen der 20ſten Allgemeinen oder

verehrten Doctors zu beſuchen;

Die Synode ſang demgemäß das Lied Nr. 214: „Aus tiefer Noth“ ꝛc.;

I. Aus dem Südlichen Diſtrict:*)
a) ſtimmberechtigte:
1. Paſtoren:
T. Stiemke (zugleich berathend als Präſes des Diſtricts); E. H.
Wiſchmeyer.

2. Deputirter:
J. Mörbe (aus P. Birkmanns Gemeinde).

b) berathende:
Lehrer:
J. Kaufmann.

4 Proceedings of the 20th General or

2. That we express the request that the body be buried in the old
churchyard by the Kreuzkirche [Church of the Cross], so that everyone
who someday comes to St. Louis may be able to visit the grave of the
beloved and revered Doctor;

3. The Synod finally expresses the request that the Right Reverend
General President, Pastor H. C. Schwan, as representative of the whole
Synod, deliver the funeral address, and that Prof. A. Crämer, as senior
member and representative of the faculties, likewise deliver a short
address at the coffin.

Finally the Synod further resolved that, since we have before us so
great a quantity of important work that must necessarily be
accomplished, and since due mention had already been made — in the
opening sermon as well as in the opening address of the General
President — of the sickbed and of the surely approaching departure of
our dear Dr. Walther, we would forgo a separate, longer memorial
service, and would least of all, for the sake of local custom, allow
entire sessions to be cancelled; instead, on Monday, at the start of
the morning session, in place of the usual opening worship, a short
memorial service would be held. The Synod accordingly sang hymn no.
214, "Aus tiefer Noth" [Out of the depths I cry to Thee], etc.; Psalm
90 was read, and thereafter the Litany was sung kneeling. The choir of
the local students also sang, in four parts, a choral piece, the
Kyrie, etc., under the direction of Mr. [Teacher] Ungemach.

Upon the Synod's organization it was found that the following
delegates

1) Were present:

I. From the Southern District:*)
a) voting members:
1. Pastors:
T. Stiemke (also serving in an advisory capacity as District
President); E. H. Wischmeyer.

2. Deputy:
J. Mörbe (from Pastor Birkmann's congregation).

b) advisory members:
Teacher:
J. Kaufmann.

*) The order of the districts is determined by their meeting time the
previous year. — The order of the delegates is the same as that given
in the reports of the individual district synods.
