Fünften Delegatenſynode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. St. 1887. 41

des Geſanges nicht verſagt iſt, der Geſangunterricht obligatoriſch ſein ſoll;

Termine eingerechnet).

Beſchloſſen, daß dieſe ſoeben getroffene Beſtimmung betreffs Be⸗

Fifth Delegate Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States, 1887. 41

church, in our opinion, should not only not be lacking, but attendance at
these hours should be made obligatory for everyone who has any singing
voice at all. At the same time, however, in our view either the Synod
itself should precisely determine the aim and purpose of this instruction,
or should have it determined by a committee of experts.

"As for the Director's salary, we take the liberty of proposing that it be
increased by $200, since the Director, before the other professors, must
of course extend hospitality to all visitors of the institution, and since
various particular expenses are, in any case, bound up specifically with
the office of Director — expenses which, in our judgment, are not too
generously covered by a salary increased by the sum named.

"Finally, we take the liberty of pointing out that the resolution of the
last Delegate Synod, by which vacation at the College at Fort Wayne is
henceforth to begin on the last Wednesday of June and end on the last
Wednesday of August (both dates inclusive), scarcely corresponds to the
Synod's intention. We therefore ask leave to propose that this resolution
be changed so that the school year at all our institutions begin on the
first Wednesday in September and close on the last Wednesday in June
(both dates inclusive)." (Report of the Board of Control of the College at
Fort Wayne, Ind., written on March 16.)

Resolved, that the Board of Control of the College at Fort Wayne be
given authority to have the floor of the first and second stories of the
main building renewed as soon as this is necessary.

Resolved, 1) that for all students of the institution who are not
lacking the gift of singing, instruction in singing shall be obligatory; 2)
that the regulation of instruction in singing, as well as the determination
of the salary for a special singing teacher, should one be needed, be
entrusted to the Board of Control.

Resolved, that an annual salary in the amount of $1200 be granted to
the Director of the institution at Fort Wayne.

Resolved, that the school year of the institution begin on the first
Wednesday in September and close on the last Wednesday in June (both
dates inclusive).

Resolved, that this ruling just made concerning the beginning and end
of the school year shall apply, with the exception of the Seminary at St.
Louis, to all educational institutions of the Synod.
