Wir ſollten ihm daher zukommen laſſen, was irgend

gemeinen Synode waren $849.20.

60 Proceedings of the 20th General or

members of their Mission Commissions and confirmed. The Southern
District first requested "about" $100.00, but immediately afterward another
$50.00, since one of its pastors was to travel through the Southern states —
so $150.00 in all. The Minnesota-Dakota District reported: its
regular expenses for the next three months would come to $1100.00.
In addition, it needed to fully equip three traveling preachers and half-equip
one more, and so on. We should therefore let it have whatever was at all
possible; it could use $600.00, if that much could be obtained. We had
the requested sums paid out through the treasurer of the General Synod.
Soon afterward the Western District asked for $500.00; that too was
paid out, as was a request endorsed by the [District] president from the
treasurer of Nebraska, for Pastor N. N., for $20.00. Thus, as desired,
$1270.00 was paid out in full. At that time the treasury of the General
Synod was well filled; it held $1887.56. To our great joy there
therefore remained a cash balance of $617.00.

"For the last quarter of 1884 (October, November, December) the
following requests came in: the Minnesota-Dakota District, which
needed $550.00 to equip its traveling preachers and $6-700.00 for their
salaries, but had an empty treasury and already had debts, wanted
$1000.00; the Nebraska District had two traveling preachers to equip
and requested $700.00; the Southern District wanted $150.00, and the
Western District had reported how much it needed monthly; we set
$500.00. That makes a total of $2350.00. In the treasury of the General
Synod there was $849.20. From the treasury of the Illinois District
$1501.00 was added, making roughly $2350.00. So it was again possible
to pay in full, which was likewise very gratifying. — For the first
quarter of 1885 the following requests were sent in: the Iowa
District requested "at least" $300.00; the Nebraska District wanted
"for certain" $400.00; the Southern District "needed about"
$100.00. The Western District asked for as much as any other
district: "if it received $1000.00, then nothing would be left over until
the next distribution." The Minnesota-Dakota District wanted as
much as possible; let us say $1000.00. Total $2800.00. In the treasury
of the General Synod there was — — $533.05. The treasury of the
Illinois District contributed $1000.00 more; making $1533.05. We
distributed this sum. Of it Iowa received $200.00; Nebraska
$250.00; the Southern District $75.00; Minnesota-Dakota
$555.00; the Western District $450.00. Now, then, more than $1260.00
was still lacking to pay everything in full. That was not gratifying. The
districts named were, as always, notified of the distribution and of the
insufficient cash on hand, and were also told that the supply was
expected to be even tighter the next time — which, unfortunately, proved
to be true.
