Da Herr Prof. F. A. Schmidt als Ueberſetzer des Concordienbuches in

Synoden.
Die Berichte der von dem Hochw. Präſes mit der Durchſicht der im

„Die Protokolle des Oeſtlichen, Mittleren und Illinois Diſtricts der
ehrw.

III. Translation of the Book of Concord into the English Language.
Since Prof. F. A. Schmidt, as translator of the Book of Concord into the English language and chief editor of the whole work, had resigned in the course of the year,
the conference resolved to let this matter rest until the next convention.
IV. English Readers for the Schools.
With regard to the English readers undertaken by the Synodical Conference (*Synodalconferenz*), it was
resolved:
1. That Professors A. Gräbner and J. D. Jakobsen be added as further members to the committee entrusted with carrying out this matter.
2. That, for the final judgment of the readers delivered, a trial printing of the manuscript be sent to all pastors and teachers of the Synodical Conference, and that all of these be requested to send any improvements found necessary to the chief editor, Pastor R. Lange in Chicago.
V. Examination of the Synodical Reports of the Synods Belonging to the Conference.
The reports of the persons charged by the Right Reverend President with the examination of the synodical reports published and sent in within the Synodical Conference in the course of the year read as follows:
"The Proceedings of the Eastern, Middle and Illinois Districts of the Reverend Synod of Missouri, etc., show that the brethren of these districts continue untiringly in the work of the Lord and enjoy His blessing in a high degree. There were discussed at the conventions of 1877 the distinction of Law and Gospel, the doctrine of sin, and theses on union or fellowship of faith and church fellowship, and this in a very instructive and edifying manner. The practical question was also discussed: What is to be done to awaken the interest of the congregations in the parish schools and to preserve the right understanding of the great importance of Christian schools? and a paper (*Referat*) [paper read to the convention] was brought up on the inner condition of the congregations. The question raised by the Synodical Conference concerning the formation of state synods and the founding of a joint seminary was discussed in detail, with special regard to a proposal of the Reverend Ohio Synod. M. Loy."
"The undersigned has the following to report to the Reverend Synodical Conference with regard to the documents handed to him:
1. In the proceedings of the Reverend Synod of Minnesota and Other States there are resolutions in regard to the establishment of state synods and
