vom 1. September 1877 bis zum 10. Juli 1878.

7. Resolved, that among the tracts to be published for the Negroes there shall also be one that treats the principles of a Lutheran church order.
On the 3rd proposal, which asks for the appointment of a mission assistant for Pastor Döscher in New Orleans, it was remarked that, if one wished to carry out this proposal, the material participation would indeed have to become greater. To awaken this heightened interest is the task of the pastors, who should take the glory of this work, which we can carry on in our immediate neighborhood, quite faithfully to heart before their congregations. After all, the soul of a Negro is of just as infinite worth as that of a white man. Even in Germany great joy was shown on the news that the Lutheran Church has now begun to do mission work among our poor Negroes. The field is large and as yet very little cultivated. The Negroes who set themselves up as preachers among their racial fellows are for the most part wretched babblers, indeed often the most dreadful characters. The fear that the influence of the Romanists would prove a great hindrance to our mission has, thank God, not been confirmed. Thereupon this proposal was adopted.
The 4th proposal was laid on the table.
After the necessity of such a measure had been pointed out on the 5th proposal, namely that if one went to work in this way there would be considerably more prospect of the early formation of organized congregations among the Negroes, this proposal was also raised to a resolution, however with the addition that a church-building fund be established for this purpose, and that the commission in carrying out the resolution go only as far as this fund reaches.
The 6th proposal was laid on the table. —
Further, there was read and approved the
Statement of Accounts
of receipts and expenditures for carrying on the mission among the Negroes, from 1 September 1877 to 10 July 1878.
