since in fact only one synod was finished and ready for the immediate establishment of a joint seminary, whereas one synod had taken a negative attitude, and the remaining synods, while approving the plan, were not ready to carry it out, the following
Resolutions
were finally adopted:
1. that we as a conference for the present let the discussion on the founding of a joint seminary rest, perhaps until the committees empowered by individual synods have acted;
2. that these committees be requested, if they find a way that could be taken, to communicate it to the conference still during this year's convention.
Since no such communication was made, the conference did not return to the subject.
II. Negro Mission.
The proceedings on this subject were connected with the report of the committee on the report and the accounts of the Board for the Negro Mission, which reads:
"The undersigned committee takes the liberty hereby to report that it has carefully examined the documents submitted to it relating to the *Negermiſſion* [mission among African Americans; the period's term "Negro Mission"], containing the annual report together with the accounts of the Board for the Negro Mission, and first, from the annual report, has convinced itself of the gratifying prosperity of this mission and of the God-blessed activity of the directing board as well as of the missionaries, and second has found the accounts correct. It further takes the liberty of proposing to the Reverend Synodical Conference (*Synodalconferenz*) that the said report be read aloud and that the six proposals made at its close be discussed one by one.
Respectfully
F. W. A. Notz.
C. J. H. Fick.
J. G. Göhringer."
This report was adopted, and then the following letter was first read.
Report on the Negro Mission.
"The Board of Missions elected by the Reverend Synodical Conference of North America at its last year's convention in Fort Wayne, Ind., consisting of the Rev. J. F. Bünger, Mr. J. Umbach and the undersigned (see report, page 45), takes the liberty of submitting to a Reverend Synodical Conference the following report of its activity so far:
