three departments, and for the Aula [assembly hall], a special fourth building be erected.

e. It may concede that each department have its own separate household.

f. It shall move that the order of lectures be a combined one, drawn up according to a common plan, — that it be determined which lectures every student who wishes to be admitted to the examination must attend, and in regard to which the choice is to be left to him.

g. It shall move that the German professors be elected by the Missouri Synod and the other exclusively German synods, the English professors by the Ohio Synod, and the Norwegian professors by the Norwegian Synod, yet in such a way that the other synods retain the right of confirmation, respectively of protest.

h. It shall move that the professors of the various departments be salaried by the synods concerned. It shall, however, be permitted to concede that the other synods also help toward raising the salary of the English professors, since many of their lectures are attended by the students of all departments. It shall further be permitted to concede that all professors, as professors of all the synods taking part in the joint seminary, be paid from a common treasury, provided that the individual synods contribute pro rata.

i. It shall have it determined that the medium of instruction in the German department be the German and Latin language.

k. It shall move that all synods taking part in the joint seminary be represented on the board of supervision.

4. It shall submit its agreement for approval, respectively rejection, to a committee representing the Delegate Synod, to be convened by the General Presidium to Chicago.

Resolved: In the event that the negotiation of the aforementioned committee has a favorable result, then, since because of cost and lack of time the whole synod cannot assemble again before its next regular convention, a synodical committee of 25 members, elected by the Delegate Synod and entrusted with its authority, shall be convened to Chicago by the General Presidium, in order to examine, respectively confirm, the agreements reached by our committee with the other synods of the Synodical Conference and to order measures that are serviceable for carrying out the plan."

The vote of the synodical congregations on Point 1 of the fourth resolution has shown that all but twenty-three congregations agreed to the establishment of a joint seminary.
