of the Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference of North America. 1914. 71

This report was referred for review and report to a committee consisting of Pastors W. H. Behrens, Joh. Gauß, J. Pelikan, J. Mittelstädt, A. Burgdorf, H. Bergmann, Mr. J. Kern, and the teachers G. H. Runge and F. W. Curschmann. The report of this committee was discussed point by point and adopted in the following form:

"Your committee has in hand the report of the Commission for the Negro Mission for consideration and report, and ventures to report, or respectively to recommend, the following to a Reverend Synodical Conference:

"1. With praise and thanks to God, who has so richly blessed the work of our Negro Mission also in the past biennium, we express our sincere joy over the progress made in this mission, and at the same time ask the Giver of all good gifts that He may also in the future give the necessary gifts for this work and crown it with His blessing.

"2. Your committee recommends that a most hearty vote of thanks be given to all officers of the mission for their faithful work, to the patrons of our mission for their in part generous gifts, to the congregation of Mr. P. v. Schlichten at Yonkers, N. Y., for the free use of its Sunday-school room for the holding of services, and to Prof. Otto C. A. Böcler of the seminary at Springfield for serving the small Negro congregation there.

"3. Your committee further recommends:

"a. to grant the Commission permission to erect the ten chapels it desires at the places named in its report, and that for this purpose the sum of about $10,000 be appropriated;

"b. to leave the distribution and application of this sum among the various stations to the judgment of the Commission;

"c. to approve the expenditure made of $300 for repairs to the college at Greensboro, N. C.;

"d. instead of the desired dormitory for girls at the college at Greensboro, N. C., to erect a building suited to present conditions, the cost of construction of which may amount to $3000.

"e. Since the dwelling house of Missionary McDavid has become very dilapidated, and another dwelling is not to be rented at his place of residence, we recommend the erection of a dwelling house at a cost of about $800.

"4. Concerning the circulation of our mission papers, we venture to call attention to the resolution made two years ago and recommend to the Conference that it be renewed. (See Report of 1912, pp. 47, 48: 'Your committee calls attention to the fact that the mission papers, the "Missionstaube" and the Lutheran Pioneer, have by no means yet the circulation in our circles that one might expect, and recommends that the Reverend Synodical Conference all
