berichtes treten ſolle;

verwieſen werde;

60 Proceedings of the eighteenth convention

It was resolved:

1. that this report take the place of the original committee report;

2. that the original committee report be referred to the Michigan District;

3. that the above Committee be requested to report to the Michigan District on what points the Committee could not come to clarity.

In order to secure greater uniformity and correct form in the examination reports it was resolved:

The Secretary shall be authorized to have forms printed for these reports; to these forms shall be attached printed remarks on the correct drafting, the authentication and the sending in of the reports.

III. English Catechism.

The Committee which had been charged to go through and improve the text of the English Small Catechism submitted the following report:

The Committee which is charged with the revision of the English catechism text of the Synodical Conference [*Synodalconferenz*] has the following to report to a Reverend Conference:

Since the meetings of the Committee planned earlier had been frustrated by insuperable obstacles, it has been able to devote itself to the common work on the solution of its task, on the basis of the preliminary work done by the individual members, only now, before the convening of the Synodical Conference, in a few sessions. The discussions that arose in the course of it, in part very detailed, have not only made the difficulty and importance of this task ever more clearly apparent, but have also led to an overall result which as such does not satisfy the members of the Committee to the degree that they would wish to lay it before the Conference for adoption and recommend it. The Committee has therefore agreed, in case time and means are granted it for this, to assemble as soon as possible after the present Conference for a longer period and not to part until it has a draft ready, which would then be put at once, in a trial printing, into the hands of all the standing members of the synods joined in the Synodical Conference. This draft could then be examined by individuals and at conferences. Whoever had objections or proposals for further improvements to make could send them to the Committee within a fixed time, and this would, after the expiry of the set
