of the Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference [*Synodalconferenz*] of North America. 1896. 59

again in our midst, after he had had to withdraw for so long on account of illness. All the missionaries have sent statistical reports to the Commission every quarter, and the Commission has been in lively written communication with the missionaries.

Individual stations of ours, namely Springfield, Little Rock and also Meherrin, have been visited by members of the Commission, and all the stations in North Carolina were visited on behalf of the Commission by Prof. A. Gräbner of St. Louis, since he recently made a journey there on matters of the English mission.

Your Commission takes the liberty, finally, of reminding you that its term of office has expired and that the honorable Synodical Conference has to elect a new Commission for the next four years.

But our LORD JESUS Christ, the LORD of His church and Bishop of our souls, who has entrusted to us this mission work, though laborious yet also glorious, may He fill His whole orthodox Lutheran church of this country with new love and zeal for this His work. May He open our hearts and hands, that we may again give more generously for it and pray more fervently, so that it may not further be restricted and pressed down by constant lack of the necessary means, but may spread ever further under His blessing and to His glory, to the salvation of many souls dearly bought.

In the name and on behalf of the Commission

C. F. W. Sapper, Chairman.
