of the Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference [*Synodalconferenz*] of North America. 1896. 51

ing the construction of the new church the services are held in the school. Alongside many shortcomings and cases of falling into sin, which even made exclusion necessary, there is nevertheless among most of the members a genuine, living Christianity. In the two years 13 were confirmed, 10 baptized, 5 buried, one couple married. The membership of the congregation is 244, among them 81 communicant members. The average attendance at services is 85. The Sunday school numbers 157 and the weekday school 150 pupils. Attendance in the upper class is very regular. In money the congregation raised $630 in the two years.

2. St. Paul, founded 1881. The pastor is Missionary F. J. Lankenau, who himself teaches school in the upper class, and the lower class is taught by Miss H. Holland. The station's property lies on Annette St., between Claiborne and Derbigny, and measures 90 by 120 feet. On it stands a church, 28 by 55 feet, with a confirmands' room, and a two-story school building, 24 by 45 feet. The whole property is worth about $5000. The membership has risen by 22 since the last report and now stands at 180, among them 86 communicant members. Baptized were 2 adults and 10 children, confirmed 4 adults and 12 children. The Sunday services are attended by about 100 and the weekday services by 60, mostly adults. The number of pupils in the weekday school varies between 125 and 160, in the Sunday school between 70 and 80. A predominantly Christian way of life prevails in the congregation, and during the last two years it has raised $639.85. Besides this, the people had their church painted at their own expense and intend to do the same for the school; they also paid the insurance premiums for church and school themselves. For a long time now the congregation has been sending $10 regularly each month to the mission treasury.

3. Bethlehem. This station was founded in 1887 by Missionary Aug. Burgdorf, who also served it as pastor until his departure, a year ago, on account of illness. His successor in office is Missionary J. Koßmann, who was installed on 10 November 1895 by Missionary Lankenau. The teachers working in the school here are, in the upper class, Mr. E. Rischow, and in the lower class, since April 1895, Mr. C. Niewedde. The property of this station lies at the corner of Washington Ave. and Dryades St. The lot is 60 by 150 feet. On it stands a church, 28 by 50, with a confirmands' room, and a two-story school building, 24 by 45 feet. The whole represents a value of about $6500. Since the last convention of the Reverend Synodical Conference 27 souls have been added to the congregation. Twelve were baptized and likewise 12 confirmed.
