The Deaconess Association within the Synodical Conference was
organized five years ago for the purpose of training Lutheran young
women to take care of the sick and the poor in the congregations of
the Synodical Conference and for the ministry of mercy in charitable
institutions and in home and foreign mission work. The Association
maintains three training-schools, one at Fort Wayne, Ind., another at
Beaver Dam, Wis., and the third at Hot Springs, S. Dak. Seven
deaconesses are in the service of the Association. The number of
deaconess students is twenty-five. The great need of missionary

Heathen Mission.

President Gausewitz reported that the Minnesota District of the Wisconsin Synod advocates that a Polish mission and, if need be, all the heathen missions of the individual synods be taken over by the whole Synodical Conference [Synodalkonferenz]. From the committee appointed two years ago to deliberate on this matter it was recalled that this matter had already been raised in the year 1892, and that the opinion was expressed at that time that the direction of a mission prospers best under a single synod. The other synods could join in such work by taking over individual fields or by representation on the mission commission. It is thought that representation at the Synodical Conference is too slight and too changing for the successful direction of such work.

It was resolved to refer this matter to the Trustees for deliberation and a report at the next convention of the Synodical Conference.

Deaconess Matter.

P. Bruno Poch, superintendent of the Lutheran Deaconess Association, gave a report on the activity of this society. He said in excerpt the following: [Printed in English.]
