52 Verhandlungen der neunundzwanzigſten Verſammlung
gehalten. Jetzt ſoll gebaut werden. Das Gebäude wird nur $1,000
koſten. Das Geld dafür iſt noch nicht vorhanden. Wir bitten um
milde Gaben.
Gemeinden.
42. St. Andrew's, Vredenburgh, Monroe Co. (Gegründet
1916. Miſſionar: Walter F. Carlſon, ſeit Juli 1923.) Seelen: 50.
Abendmahlsberechtigte: 29. Hier iſt wenig Hoffnung auf Wachstum,
weil die Gegend ſpärlich beſiedelt iſt. — Minnie Bradley ſchloß ſich vor
einigen Jahren dieſer Kirche an.
Abendmahl gegangen. Superintendent Schmidt ſagt: „Wir haben bei
Buena Viſta ein enormes Miſſionsfeld.“
44. Mount Olive, Tinela, Monroe Co. (Gegründet 1916.
Miſſionar: W. F. Carlſon, ſeit Juli 1923.) Die Seelenzahl iſt in zwei
Jahren von 50 auf 69 geſtiegen. Da hier in Anbetracht ländlicher Ver⸗

52 Proceedings of the twenty-ninth convention
held. Now a building is to be put up. The building will cost only $1,000. The money for it is not yet at hand. We ask for charitable gifts. — In Wilcox County we thus have eight congregations in all.
42. St. Andrew's, Vredenburgh, Monroe Co. (Founded 1916. Missionary: Walter F. Carlson, since July 1923.) Souls: 50. Communicant members: 29. There is little hope of growth here, because the district is sparsely settled. — Minnie Bradley joined this church some years ago. Every Sunday morning she comes to Sunday school, and in the evening she is again at the preaching service. She travels sixteen miles to come to the house of God twice. An example for many among us!
43. St. James's, Buena Vista, Monroe Co. (Founded 1916. Missionary: W. F. Carlson, since July 1923.) The number of souls rose in the second quarter of this year from 80 to 99, the number of communicant members from 37 to 53. In the first half of this year the confirmed members have already gone to Holy Communion twice. Superintendent Schmidt says: "At Buena Vista we have an enormous mission field."
44. Mount Olive, Tinela, Monroe Co. (Founded 1916. Missionary: W. F. Carlson, since July 1923.) The number of souls has risen in two years from 50 to 69. Since in view of rural conditions many people live here, further growth is to be expected. It is a fine, faithful flock that we have in Tinela. — The four congregations that we have in Monroe County are all in the northern part of the county.
45. Mobile. (Missionary: W. F. Carlson, since July 1923.) Work was begun here in the year 1920. Because of the great distance — 150 miles — serving this mission station was difficult. It was limited almost exclusively to the makeshift care of those who have moved to Mobile from our country congregations. Since the prospects for growth are good, the commission has called a missionary of its own for Mobile. Candidate for the ministry Wilhelm F. Schink,* who took his examination at Wauwatosa this year, was called. He has accepted the call. Next to Missionary Beck in New Orleans he is the second missionary whom the Reverend Wisconsin Synod has supplied. — A little church would cost about $5,500.
46. Mount Calvary, Tilden, Dallas Co. (Founded 1916. Missionary: Eugen R. Berger, since 1920.) On this large field things have unfortunately gone backward. One reason for this is the moving away of many Negroes. In addition, an unpleasant incident two years ago left scars behind. Recently, however, a small increase is again to be recorded. Souls: 53. Communicant members: 31.
47. Grace, Ingomar, Dallas Co. (Founded 1919. Missionary: E. R. Berger, since 1920.) Souls: 26; communicant members: 6. This is a district morally degraded, on the Alabama River. A woman said: "I would like to join the Lutheran Church, but in this church one cannot sin enough!" The services and the school as well have now been held for four years in an old, vacant board shack. Church and school (under one roof) would cost $1,000.
