of the Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference of North America. 1924. 63
That volunteer representatives who are present here from the various districts pledge themselves to initiate the collection of the funds through the children. — The representatives of the various synods and synodical districts rose here one by one and pledged themselves in all earnestness and emphasis to stand up in their circles for this highly important collection among the children for the building fund of the mission. The mission director was instructed to win representatives for the districts not represented here.
That the visitors of the various visitation circuits of the synods concerned be asked to promote this important work to the best of their ability and now also, as officers of the church to whom the Savior's cause of the kingdom is always at heart, to undertake the support in their circuits, so that the collection plan of the Synodical Conference [Synodalkonferenz] may be brought to blessed execution. — Adopted.
That any expenses which the volunteer representatives may incur in carrying out this plan be reimbursed to them from the treasury for the Negro Mission. — Adopted.
That, where practicable and desirable, the collection be made not necessarily by synodical districts but by states, as for example in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska. — Adopted.
That the volunteer representatives of the districts take up the cause of a particular chapel and urge the whole plan and the collection of the funds at conferences that still meet this fall. The director of the Negro Mission will assign a particular chapel to each district. — Adopted.
That Director Drewes instruct the missionary of the parish concerned that needs a chapel to address a personal letter to the district representative in which the need is described. This material is then to be used for publicity purposes. — Adopted.
That Director Drewes also have suitable publicity material printed for mass distribution. — Adopted.
That the editors of the children's and young people's publications within the Synodical Conference be asked to give space in their papers to articles that promote the collection of these funds. — Adopted.
We recommend further:
That we pay our tribute to the Northern Illinois District and express our joy that this district has resolved to collect $15,000 within its borders for the erection of a church and school in Chicago to serve the Negro Mission. — Adopted.
That we acknowledge with praise that the Negro Mission has been taken in hand by various preachers and their congregations in Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Detroit and Free Soil, Mich., and we herewith encourage others who have just such opportunities to follow this example. — Adopted.
Since in the large cities of our country, where our white congregations are strongly represented, as in Chicago, New York, Pittsburgh, Detroit, St. Louis, St. Paul, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Indianapolis, where the Negro population is growing strongly and therefore our Lutheran Christians who at the well-covered table of grace of the LORD
