arbeitet.
abgelaufen: Prof. Th. Gräbners ſowie der Paſtoren Walter Hönecke,
R. Jeſſe und Th. F. Walther.
6. Vertreter der Negermiſſion in den Synodal⸗
diſtrikten. Folgende Diſtrikte haben keinen Vertreter: der North
Dakota⸗ und Montana⸗Diſtrikt der Miſſouriſynode und der Südweſt⸗
Wisconſin⸗Diſtrikt der Wisconſinſynode. Die Synodalkonferenz wolle
dieſe Stellen während ihrer diesjährigen Verſammlung wieder beſetzen.
7. An Eigentum beſitzt die Negermiſſion: 2 Colleges, 3 Pro⸗
feſſorenwohnungen (Greensboro), 16 Kapellen, 5 Kapellen, in denen
8. Miſſionsarbeiter. Im Dienſt der Negermiſſion ſtehen
folgende Arbeiter: 1 Miſſionsdirektor, 1 Superintendent in Alabama,
Be⸗

58 Proceedings of the twenty-ninth convention
Commission, has rendered inestimable services to our Negro Mission for nearly fifteen years, which ought to be acknowledged with thanks. In the hundreds of meetings of the Commission that were held in these fifteen years he almost never was absent. He has always shown a lively interest in the Negro Mission that became dear to him. With his colleagues he has always worked together in the finest harmony. May God the LORD bless him in his important work over there in Germany! — The terms of office of the following members of the Commission have expired: Prof. Th. Gräbner, as well as Pastors Walter Hönecke, R. Jesse and Th. F. Walther.
6. Representatives of the Negro Mission in the Synodical Districts. The following districts have no representative: the North Dakota and Montana District of the Missouri Synod and the Southwest Wisconsin District of the Wisconsin Synod. The Synodical Conference [Synodalkonferenz] should fill these positions again during this year's convention.
7. In property the Negro Mission owns: 2 colleges, 3 professors' residences (Greensboro), 16 chapels, 5 chapels in which school is also held, 22 chapels and schools under one roof, 9 schoolhouses, 10 parsonages, and 3 small houses occupied by church workers, together with the lots belonging to them. The whole property has approximately a value of $250,000.
8. Mission Workers. In the service of the Negro Mission are the following workers: 1 mission director, 1 superintendent in Alabama who at the same time also serves mission posts, 7 white and 3 colored professors, some of whom also serve mission congregations, 27 missionaries (9 white and 18 colored), 19 teachers (1 white and 18 colored), 37 colored women teachers (among them 2 matrons and 2 women teachers in the colleges). Total number of workers: 95 (19 white and 76 colored). (In addition 1 white helper: P. Ad. H. Poppe.)
9. The Needs of the Negro Mission. This year the mission needs about $150,000 for current expenses. For repairs and new buildings about $58,000 are now needed.
10. A Reminder. We wish to remind you that the various synods of the Synodical Conference do not include the building of new churches and schools in the Negro Mission in their budget for the Negro Mission. If, therefore, a congregation raises its quota for the Negro Mission in full, it has nevertheless collected nothing thereby toward the erection of the many much-needed churches and schools. Special gifts and a particularly good collection for Negro churches and schools are urgently needed. May the building fund of the Negro Mission soon be remembered with a special collection.
But may our highly praised LORD and Savior Jesus Christ fill the hearts of our dear mission workers with desire, love and perseverance in this toilsome but glorious and blessed mission work! And may he make us all ever more fervent in prayer and more cheerful in giving for this blessed work, which keeps spreading further, and let us see even here in time and there in eternity that what his holy mouth spoke through the royal singer David is true: "Ethiopia shall stretch out her hands unto God"! Ps. 68:32. [Luther's rendering: "Mohrenland".]
In the name and by commission of the Commission for the Negro Mission,
Christoph F. Drewes, Mission Director.
