56 Verhandlungen der zweiundzwanzigſten Verſammlung

Das unterzeichnete Komitee erlaubt ſich, einer Ehrw. Synodal⸗
konferenz folgendes zu empfehlen:

feſſors in Greensboro, N. C., gutheiße.

56 Proceedings of the twenty-second convention

The undersigned committee takes the liberty of recommending the following to an Honorable Synodical Conference:

1. Because the treasury of the Negro Mission, according to the report, shows a debt of $9152.13, and also three buildings resolved on two years ago could not be carried out for lack of means, the Synodical Conference may order that through a suitable person an appeal to all congregations and pastors be issued in every church paper of the individual synods, in which the distress of this treasury be set forth and request be made that every congregation raise a special collection — in addition to the other collections for the Negro Mission — so that the oppressive debt may be paid off as soon as possible and no harm come to the work of the mission.

2. Since the current expenditures in the future will amount to $1720.00, perhaps somewhat more, monthly, provision ought to be made that this treasury be remembered more generously and more regularly than hitherto.

3. That the Commission of the Negro Mission be encouraged to fill the vacant positions confidently, and indeed as soon as possible.

4. That the Synodical Conference approve the appointment of a further professor in Greensboro, N. C.

5. That the preachers be trained only in Greensboro, N. C., and that New Orleans remain a preparatory institution and teachers' seminary.

6. That the Synodical Conference request the Commission to draw up a regulation for the two institutions.

M. Eickmann. R. Polzin.
John Boock. H. Weseloh.

Point 1 of this report was adopted with the addition that P. C. Gausewitz Jr. be requested to take care of the publication demanded in the point; in case of his being prevented, the committee is to provide a substitute.

To point 2 the addition was made: The Synodical Conference recommends to all congregations to take up at least one collection a year for the Negro Mission.

Points 3, 4 and 6 were adopted unchanged.

The vote on point 5 was postponed for two years.

Further, in connection with this committee report it was resolved:

The Synodical Conference recommends that in mission festivals, in sermons and addresses, more mention be made of the Negro Mission. Also every member of the Synodical Conference should take it to heart to win readers for the "Missionstaube" [The Mission Dove] and the *Lutheran Pioneer*.

P. J. C. Schmidt is to be compensated for pecuniary losses which he had from the building of Immanuel College.

The Commission is to encourage the schoolchildren of the Synodical Conference to collect for Negro schools.
