Amen.

of the Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference of North America. 1908. 55

9. Chapels have been built in Salisbury and Conover, N. C., and in Napoleonville, La. In Rocks, N. C., the building of a chapel is intended, likewise in Mount Pleasant, N. C.

10. The present workers in the Negro Mission are: In Louisiana: the pastors and professors: Kramer, Wenger, Wilde, Ed. Schmidt and E. Krause (newly called); the teachers: Vix, Meibohm, Bruns, Odendahl, Eberhard, as well as (Negroes) N. Seeberry, Wiley, Wm. Seeberry (newly called) and Miss Walter. — In North Carolina: the pastors and professors: Bakke, Ph. Schmidt, Wahlers, Lochner, Groß, W. H. Lash (Negro), John McDavid (Negro); the teachers: Buntrock, Carter, Reid, F. Alston and Miss Elizah Johnston (all Negroes). — In Illinois: Pastor J. Doswell (Negro). — Together 28; 16 whites and 12 Negroes.

11. The needs of our Negro Mission are chiefly: 1. the liquidation of our treasury debt; 2. the filling of the vacant parishes Meherrin, Greensboro and Mount Pleasant in North Carolina, Mansura in Louisiana, and the refilling of Little Rock, Ark.; 3. the appointment of a further professor at Immanuel College; 4. the building of a new professor's residence in Greensboro; 5. the chapel buildings at Mount Pleasant and Rocks, N. C., resolved already two years ago, must still be carried out.

Concluding Word.

Thus an Honorable Synodical Conference has herewith been given once more an overview of the ever-growing work of the Negro Mission, demanding ever more attention and making ever higher demands, which it carries on in the name of the Lord Jesus and in obedience to his command. For so many a glorious success, for so much rich blessing with which he has crowned our work, let humble thanks be given to him. In the continuation of this his work we will trust in his Word: "And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd." And in the consciousness of our own weakness and need of help in carrying out this great, glorious work, we pray:

The cause and honor, Lord Jesus Christ,
Are not ours, but thine indeed:
Therefore stand by those
Who rely on thee freely!
Amen.
In the name and on behalf of the Commission for the Negro Mission
H. Meyer.
