in ein Pfarrhaus mit fünf Zimmern. Er zeigt überhaupt in allen
Dingen gutes Geſchick. Zu Charlotte gehören noch:
a. Die Gemeinden: Mount Zion in Meyersville mit 24
Seelen, 11 Kommunizierenden und 2 Stimmberechtigten; Bethlehem
in Monroe mit 18 Seelen, 10 Kommunizierenden und 3 Stimm⸗
berechtigten.
3. Mount Pleaſant. (Vakant.) Gerade als unſer bis⸗
heriger Miſſionar hier, Paſtor Stuart Doswell (Neger), ſich an⸗
Paſtor McDavid ſchrieb darüber in
ſeiner charakteriſtiſchen Weiſe: “He was about to report to you on his
mission, but now he has reported to his Heavenly Father.”
Immanuel in Rimerstown zählt 14 Seelen, 3 Kommunizie⸗
rende und 2 Stimmberechtigte. In Mount Pleaſant hielt der Paſtor
Schule mit 30 Kindern.
4. Salisbury. Paſtor W. H. Laſh (Neger), Miſſionar.

into a parsonage with five rooms. He shows good skill in all things generally. Belonging to Charlotte are also:
a. The congregations: Mount Zion in Meyersville with 24 souls, 11 communicants and 2 voting members; Bethlehem in Monroe with 18 souls, 10 communicants and 3 voting members. Unfortunately Yucu Mohammed, the African "prince," who was last employed here as a helper, did not prove himself; he had to be dismissed. The school had 30 children on the roll. Pastor McDavid expects good success from this post if a worker of its own were appointed here. An organ would be desirable. — St. James in Southern Pines with 36 souls, 13 communicants and 3 voting members. This congregation the missionary could visit only once a month, on account of the great distance (105 miles). Yet it goes slowly forward. During the summer months the above-named John Alston keeps school here with 45 children.
b. The preaching place Highland Park. Here 15 souls stand under the care of the missionary, and he hopes to found a new station here. In this whole territory things are going forward. In the congregations there are Lutherans rich in knowledge and faithful. Church attendance is satisfactory, and the people show lively interest in our mission. In the last two years they raised $721.30.
3. Mount Pleasant. (Vacant.) Just as our former missionary here, Pastor Stuart Doswell (Negro), was preparing to send in his report on the stations served by him, the Lord laid him on a sickbed which was to become his deathbed as well. He died on the 9th of July and therefore could not send in his report. Pastor McDavid wrote about it in his characteristic manner: "He was about to report to you on his mission, but now he has reported to his Heavenly Father." [Printed in English.] The deceased, the first among our colored missionaries, had worked in this field since the summer of 1902, and the Lord laid blessing on his preaching of the Savior of sinners; it went forward in his mission. He had 4 congregations: Mount Calvary in Mount Pleasant numbers 84 souls, 35 communicants and 16 voting members. For Mount Pleasant a chapel was approved two years ago, and the people have raised a small fund for its building. The Commission has had no money for this chapel up to now. — Mount Zion in Gold Hill consists of 63 souls, 35 communicants and 14 voting members. — St. Peter's, near Dry's School House, has 43 souls, 15 communicants and 9 voting members. — Immanuel in Rimerstown numbers 14 souls, 3 communicants and 2 voting members. In Mount Pleasant the pastor kept school with 30 children.
4. Salisbury. Pastor W. H. Lash (Negro), Missionary. St. John's. If our Christians here have gone about, since the 5th of April 1905, down-
