erſter Profeſſor an unſerem theologiſchen Seminar, verpflichtet ſein ſolle, in

Proſeminar in Steeden.

...motion for reconsideration was, after those who had previously asked for the floor had been granted it, rejected, and the synod declared itself ready to vote. Thereupon the following

resolution was adopted: In view of the fact that Prof. Dr. Walther himself had put the urgent request to the synod that one of his two heavy and responsibility-laden offices be taken from him, and in view of the fact that the office of professor at the theological seminary is by far the more important one, be it resolved (albeit with a heavy heart) that Prof. Dr. Walther be entirely relieved of the General Presidium, which he has administered for many years with such great faithfulness and to such rich blessing, tirelessly — because only in this way can relief be provided from the workload that is now almost crushing him.

Thereupon, after the General President had resumed the chair, the motion was made that Prof. Dr. Walther, as first professor at our theological seminary, be obligated to attend every district synod at least once within a period of three years. Although this motion found lively support, its adoption as a resolution nevertheless failed on account of Prof. Dr. Walther's firm refusal. After he had given the grounds for this declaration of his, the synod did indeed drop the matter, but could not refrain from expressing at least the wish and the hope of being able to see the dear man as often as possible at their district conventions and to enjoy his gifts.

Resolved, that Professor Dr. Walther be requested, in the most friendly yet also most urgent manner, to take a trip to Germany and Switzerland for his recovery.

The Pro-Seminary at Steeden.

Since, by God's goodness, our synod has grown strong enough that the number of gifted young men necessary for the service of our Church can be supplied by our own congregations, while conditions in Germany have developed such that young men of the kind we need can only rarely still be won over there:

Resolved, that the Pro-Seminary at Steeden, insofar as our synod as such is concerned in the matter, be declared discontinued.

Since a small building is attached to the parsonage of Pastor Brunn, which at one time served as a preparatory institution for young men and is the property of the synod:

Resolved, that this building be given to Pastor Brunn as a token of our gratitude for his faithful labor on behalf of the work of our American Lutheran Church.
