Report

on the

Proceedings of the General German Evang.-Luth. [Evangelical Lutheran] Synod
of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States

at its

Seventeenth Convention as the Second Delegate Synod

at St. Louis, Mo.,

from May 15 to 25, 1878.

J.N.J. [Jesu Nomine Jesu — "in the name of Jesus," a traditional devotional heading]

In accordance with a call from the General Praesidium [presiding board], resolved by all the district synods and published in "Der Lutheraner," for a convention to be held earlier than the previously appointed time, the General Synod, as the Second Delegate Synod, assembled at the place it had determined in 1874, namely St. Louis, Mo., and held its sessions in the schoolhouse hall of the Evangelical Lutheran Trinity [*Dreieinigkeits*] congregation of the Rev. Pastor Brauer.

On Wednesday, May 15, at 9:30 in the morning, the synodical convention was opened with a worship service in the church of the said congregation, at which the Rev. Pastor Wunder, President [*Präses*] of the Illinois District Synod, preached on Acts 9:31.

In all, eighteen sessions were held — nine morning sessions, nine afternoon sessions, and one evening gathering. It was determined that the sessions should run from 8:30 to 11:30 in the morning and from 2:30 to 5:30 in the afternoon. In addition, the pastors held a pastoral conference, and the delegates held an extra meeting.

Every session was opened with singing, the reading of a psalm from the Altenburg Bible commentary [*Altenburger Bibelwerk*], and prayer by the chaplain appointed by the Synod, Pastor H. Sauer, and was closed by the President with the Lord's Prayer.
