The question now is: which of these three paths is best for us?

Resolved, that the supervisory board in Springfield be authorized to
act, on the advice of a reputable legal counsel, as is most beneficial
to the institution, respectively the Synod.

Whereas, besides the two professors' residences (see the report of the
General Synod of 1874, p. 43), a third became necessary for the
pro-seminary teacher, Collaborator G. Kröning, who after his marriage
could no longer remain living in the seminary building itself, and the
cost came to $700.00 more than the Synod had approved in 1874 for the
two teachers' residences to be built:

Resolved, that in view of the newly arisen circumstances, which
absolutely required a third teacher's residence, the additional
expenditure of $700.00 be approved.

Whereas stables on the seminary grounds have become an unavoidable
necessity:

Resolved, that a sum not exceeding $300.00 be granted to the
supervisory board at Springfield for this purpose.

Whereas it was represented to the Synod that the Collaborator's
workload, though voluntarily assumed and courageously borne, is
unusually heavy, in that he must teach students of very deficient
preparation alongside those who bring good preparation into the
pro-seminary; and since the Synod could not bring itself to appoint a
second pro-seminary teacher, the faculty was encouraged to make use of
the right already given it, by which it may turn away all those young
men who lack the minimum level of schooling necessary for admission to
the institution.

Resolved, that the steward [*Hausverwalter*] at the Springfield
seminary receive the same salary as the steward at Addison, Ill.

Resolved, that Prof. Crämer be appointed director of the seminary, in
which capacity he shall preside over the faculty and cast the deciding
vote.*

Teachers' Seminary [*Schullehrer-Seminar*] at Addison, Ill.

Over this institution too our faithful God, hearing the many prayers
and intercessions sent up to him every Sunday in the public worship
services — and, no doubt, also otherwise by many devout Christians who
have at heart the preservation and spread of pure doctrine in church
and school — for our educational institutions, has held his gracious
and blessing hand during the period that fell between the last

the Synodical Handbook is to be amended in accordance with this
resolution.
