der Ev.⸗Luth. Synodalkonferenz von Nordamerika. 1912. 15
und in eine Beſprechung desſelben einzutreten;
Kirche und daher in der Kirche keine Berechtigung hat;
eine ſolche Antitheſe fordern;
(Gezeichnet.) Das Komitee.

of the Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference of North America. 1912. 15
what position we are to take toward such a union according to God's Word and the Confession of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
The Synodical Conference [*Synodalkonferenz*] is moved to enter into a discussion of the matter of the union of the Norwegian synods, which already by the provisions of the Constitution belongs to the sphere of business of the Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference, especially also by the appearance of Prof. Dr. H. G. Stub and Prof. Dr. Joh. Ylvisaker, who as delegates of their synod laid their cause before the convention and asked for a brotherly discussion.
Therefore the undersigned committee recommends the following as the subject and course of today's proceedings:
1. to read the so-called "Opgjör" or agreement and to enter into a discussion of it;
2. in connection with this, to request the dear Norwegian sister synod, by a delegation and by a specially brotherly letter, as cordially as urgently, for the sake of the Confession
a) in Theses 1-3 on the election of grace [*Gnadenwahl*], to remove the equation of the so-called first and second forms of doctrine, since only the first is the truth of Scripture and of the Confession, while the second has no ground in God's Word and in the Confession of the Lutheran Church and therefore has no justification in the Church;
b) to bring about in the theses a rejection of human conduct, especially also of the omission of the so-called wilful resistance by natural powers or powers of grace, as the explanatory ground why God has converted and elected some before others, as is taught by our opponents in the American Lutheran Church, since the present church conditions demand such an antithesis;
c) to hold with us a Christian-brotherly discussion of the earlier theses on the calling and conversion and of the present ones on the election of grace according to Scripture and Confession, in truth and in love. (Signed.) The Committee.
2. The "Opgjör" in German Translation.
"Concerning the doctrine of the election of grace the joint committee agreed to assent to the following:
"1) Conclusion.
"1) The union committees of the Synod and of the Forenede Kirke unanimously and without reservation acknowledge the doctrine of the election of grace as set forth in the 11th Article of the Formula of Concord (the so-called first form of doctrine) and in Pontoppidan's 'Sandhed til gudfrygtighed,' question 548 (the so-called second form of doctrine).
"2) Since both conferring bodies recognize that Art. 11 of the Formula of Concord is the pure and correct doctrine of the Word of God
