VIII. Eingabe.

Folgende Eingabe der Gemiſchten Konferenz von Zentral⸗Nord⸗
Nebraska wurde verleſen:
Martinsburg, Nebr., im März 1910.
An die Ev.⸗Luth. Synodalkonferenz von Nordamerika, verſammelt in
Seward, Nebr.

Viele herrliche
Schriftabſchnitte, ja ganze Bücher ſind unberückſichtigt oder wenig be⸗
bei Maria und Martha [„Eins iſt not“] u. a. m.). Dagegen ſind
Texte aus den Apokryphen benutzt (Beiſpiele: Weish. 5, 1—12; Sir.
24, 22—31). (Siehe ferner Appendix.)

VIII. Petition.

The following petition of the Mixed Conference of Central-North
Nebraska was read:
Martinsburg, Nebr., in March 1910.
To the Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference of North America, assembled at
Seward, Nebr.

Reverend fathers and brethren in Christ!

On behalf of the Mixed Conference of Central-North-Nebraska
the undersigned committee takes the liberty of laying before you the following for kind
consideration, namely:

Whether it is not time for the Reverend Synodical Conference, through
representatives from its midst, or in whatever other way it considers good, to add to the
present series of pericopes [Perikopenreihe, the lectionary of appointed readings] two or three further series, compiled from suitable texts of the Old and New Testaments, and that these Scripture portions then receive due consideration in the respective
synodical publications, as is done with the
present ones in the "Homiletisches Magazin" [Homiletical Magazine].

Reasons for such a step would be approximately the following:

1. The present series of pericopes, despite all its advantages, has many defects.
Some texts are unsuitable (examples: the Gospel for
Church Dedication Day, Maundy Thursday and Reformation Festival). Others are
almost alike in content and therefore bring the same matter twice in the
church year (examples: the feeding of the four thousand and of the five thousand, the raising of the daughter of Jairus and of the young man at
Nain, the Epistles on the 1st and 2nd Sunday after Trinity, the Easter
texts and the Epistle on the 15th Sunday after Trinity). Many glorious
Scripture portions, indeed whole books, have been disregarded or little
used (examples: the whole Old Testament, the Acts of the Apostles, the Revelation, the parable of the prodigal son, Jesus
with Mary and Martha ["One thing is needful"] and others). On the other hand
texts from the Apocrypha are used (examples: Wisd. 5:1–12; Sir.
24:22–31). (See further Appendix.)
