conſin, Minneſota, Michigan u. a.

24 Proceedings of the twenty-third convention

settled to the satisfaction of all. By resolution the Michigan
Synod has also regretted and revoked its withdrawal from the Synodical Conference. But in order not to increase the number of orthodox church bodies
in the State of Michigan, it wanted no separate existence
but sought union with the District Synod from which it had
separated in 1896. Referred by the latter to the Joint Synod of Wisconsin,
Minnesota, Michigan and Other States, a series of
resolutions was adopted at its convention last year at Fort Atkinson, Wis., which made it possible for the pastors and congregations of the Michigan
Synod to enter the District Synod without the legal standing in civil law
of the Michigan Synod being called into question. On
the unanimous motion of the Michigan Synod the District
Synod resolved, equally unanimously, to unite with it and, as before
1896, to constitute in terms of church law and civil law the "Ev. Luth. Synod of Michigan
and Other States."

The present Michigan Synod does not appear before the Synodical Conference as a new body
but as the former District Synod of
Michigan, which continues in church-law terms, though considerably enlarged and without the name District. The Michigan Synod desires
that the Reverend Synodical Conference approve the steps taken,
in that the delegates who have appeared be recognized as such; and
we recommend that this be done.

Respectfully submitted,
The Committee:
Friedrich H. K. Soll.
H. Speckhard.
W. Bröcker.
Seward, Nebr., 19 August 1910.

III. Negro Mission [Negermission].

The following report of the Commission for the Negro Mission, together with a
petition of the committee that examined the books of the treasurer of the Negro Mission,
concerning reimbursement of the expenses especially of the
chairman and of the treasurer of the Commission for
the Negro Mission, was read and referred to a committee consisting of one
pastor and one lay delegate from each of the synods represented, for
report.

Report of the Commission for the Negro Mission
from August 1908 to August 1910.

"God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness,
hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God
in the face of Jesus Christ," 2 Cor. 4:6. In these words we are
shown how people come to the saving knowledge of God
