der Ev.⸗Luth. Synodalkonferenz von Nordamerika. 1910. 37
Peay.
2. Das Luther⸗College in New Orleans, La.

Peay. All three were ordained in a solemn divine service at Concord,
N. C., on Sunday, 4 July 1909, with the assistance of Prof. J. Ph.
Schmidt and of Pastors Lash and McDavid, by the senior of our
Mission, Director N. J. Bakke, and now stand in the service
of the Mission. On 3 June of this year another graduate,
Wm. Hill, could be dismissed into the ministry. He is at present helping out
in Pastor McDavid's parish. — A second professor's
residence was built for $2000.00. The late President Niemann
bequeathed to the College a rich, valuable library. — Wanted
are central heating for the College and an assistant professor for
the coming school year.
2. The Luther College in New Orleans, La.
This institution has now served our Mission for seven years. Its
chief purpose is to train workers for the Mission. It has sought in a
modest way to fulfill its task. The two professors,
Director F. Wenger and Prof. R. A. Wilde, have worked with great faithfulness
and almost beyond their strength. Director Wenger gave 45 hours a week and Prof. Wilde 40. Yet the number of pupils in
the last two years was smaller. In the school year 1908/09
it was 23, in the school year 1909/10 22. Nevertheless the
Luther College has already furnished our Mission several workers, namely
earlier 3 teachers and 2 women teachers, and in July of this
year a seminarian, Calvin Thompson, could be dismissed into the holy ministry. He was ordained on 17 July of this year in
St. Paul's Church at New Orleans by Pastor A. Witt and now stands
in the service of the Mission at Merigold, Miss. Director Wenger
accepted, with the consent of the Commission, in June last a call
to Frohna, Mo. Thus this institution at present has only one
professor. The Reverend Synodical Conference is asked carefully to consider the future of
Luther College.
Miscellaneous.
1. The Lord of the Church has allowed a warm and faithful friend of the
Negro Mission to enter in to his Lord's joy, namely Pastor C. J.
Otto Hanser of St. Louis. On 10 January of this year,
about 11 in the evening, he departed gently and quietly. For many years
this zealous mission man served the Negro Mission as
member and chairman of the Mission Commission and as editor of the
"Missionstaube" [Mission Dove]. May his memory remain among us in blessing!
2. Since the last convention of the Synodical Conference
changes have repeatedly had to take place in the Commission for the Negro Mission elected at that time. Two of the elected members, namely Pastor Hemmeter and Prof. Fürbringer, felt compelled, because of other
overburdened professional work, to decline the election, or rather to withdraw from the
Commission. The Commission filled the vacancies in accordance with the
