der Ev.⸗Luth. Synodalkonferenz von Nordamerika. 1910. 35

f. Greensboro, Grace Church. (Vakant.) Prof. F. Wahlers
Seelen, 26 Kommunizierende, 6 Stimmberechtigte, 102 Schulkinder

of the Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference of North America. 1910. 35

f. Greensboro, Grace Church. (Vacant.) Prof. F. Wahlers
of Immanuel College has now for three years, with great
self-sacrifice, faithfully looked after this congregation. It numbers 60
souls, 26 communicants, 6 voting members, 102 school children
and 32 Sunday school pupils. The school, under the capable direction of
Teacher Buntrocks (Negro), is in a flourishing condition.
The number of pupils increased so that we had to put a female assistant teacher
at his side. Here we possess a beautiful church and a
good school, both under one roof. This station ought also to be filled again
with a suitable worker, since many Negroes live in Greensboro,
so there is much mission material at hand, and we Lutherans
have a good reputation in the city. Moreover Prof. Wahlers is fully
occupied by his work in the College. — Trinity Church
in Elon College is a branch of Grace Church and is now
served by Prof. Lochner from Greensboro. This congregation numbers
18 souls, 10 communicants and 3 voting members; a student
kept summer school with 13 children. Here too we have a chapel.

g. Besides Grace Church we have in Greensboro a
second mission at Immanuel College, which is directed by Director
Bakke. On Sundays Bible class and
catechization are held in the morning and a preaching service in the evening. At the
services 30 to 40 hearers appear; 64 received Holy Communion during the
past year. In the College there is also
a flourishing school with 139 children. Teacher Evans Reid and a
woman teacher, Miss Pearl Windsor, kept school until in May of this
year Teacher Reid took over the lower classes, while Teacher Carter
of Concord was placed in the upper classes. This school is of great importance and significance for
our College, for many of the pupils enter the College. Until now the pupils were housed in the
classrooms of the College; there is, however, such a decided lack of space
that a building of its own must be erected for the school, which Director Bakke urgently requests. Six students
were confirmed by Prof. Bakke, none of whom formerly belonged to our church. — At Highland Park the mission could not yet
be energetically pursued.

8. Virginia.

Meherrin, St. Matthews. (Vacant.) Since the departure of
Pastor Schooff in October 1907 Prof. Lochner has served this station,
until in November of last year Pastor J. S. Koiner of Conover,
N. C., was temporarily appointed, especially for the sake of the school.
The congregation has suffered as a result of the long vacancy. It ought soon to
be filled again with a capable missionary. It numbers 74
souls, 36 communicants and 30 voting members and has a
school of 48, a Sunday school of 18 children. The two
preaching places Bruceville and Pleasant Grove are during
