ſtricte eines größeren Körpers werden ſollen. Auch erklärte er, daß die
ehrw.
3. Die ehrw. Synode von Miſſouri, Ohio u. a. Staaten:
Der allgemeine Präſes derſelben, Herr Prof. C. F. W. Walther, be⸗
ten konnten daher nichts berichten.
5. Die ehrw. Synode von Ohio u. a. Staaten:

districts of a larger body. He also declared that the venerable Minnesota Synod agrees with the resolutions on the joint seminary [*Geſammtſeminar*], only that it cannot yet contribute to it in material terms.
3. The venerable Synod of Missouri, Ohio and Other States:
The general president [*Präſes*] of it, Mr. Prof. C. F. W. Walther, reported that the general synod of Missouri had not yet held any sessions and that two districts of it had not yet deliberated on this matter. According to the constitution of the synod, however, even concurring resolutions of all districts are as yet no resolutions of the general synod. It could therefore be reported on only next year. This much could be communicated, however, that four districts agree heartily with the resolutions of the Conference of last year.
4. The venerable Norwegian Lutheran Synod:
This synod too had not yet been assembled. Its delegates could therefore report nothing.
5. The venerable Synod of Ohio and Other States:
As an expression of its opinion Mr. Prof. W. F. Lehmann read the following passage from its 21st synodical report of the year 1876, pages 19–22:
"The extraordinary importance and significance of the subject require that the synod must not postpone taking up the plan of establishing state synods, so far as it concerns it. It would by no means appear expedient and helpful to bring this matter before the congregations already now, but it is now for us to take account, in a suitable way, of the proposal and urgent counsel of the Synodical Conference. And there the General Synod [*Allgemeine Synode*, the Ohio Synod's general body] is the real place to look at the matter, to become clear about its difficulties and the possible removal of them, in order thus to arrive at a definite plan which could then be laid before the congregations in tangible, clear form. Admittedly the General Synod could pass no binding resolution on this, since it has no power to encroach on the rights of the congregations. Nor could one proceed unilaterally without being sure of the consent of the synods concerned. Yet an immediate thorough discussion could achieve this, that everyone becomes clear about the real content and proper meaning of these proposals made by the Synodical Conference, which are indeed not foreign to the other synods; and only so could one then also arrive at a definite plan as to how these proposals might be realized.
It was remarked in reply that so far, according to the proposals and resolutions of the Synodical Conference, there is no necessity for us at all to
